Relapse
Posted on Wednesday, July 01st

Keeping in Eminem’s typical theatrical tradition, Relapse offers familiar skits between lyrics.  The nasal sounding, wacky attempts at humor become the spoonful of sugar on past albums making the raunchy, often degrading lyrics easier to swallow.  However, Relapse lacks that aspect which, without, creates an overall sinister and dead-serious recovery album.  Just as raunchy as before, Eminem means business and there’s nothing funny about it.  The most worthwhile tracks are the honest accounts of what seems to be the release of his demons; dark and gritty and in your face.  I could do without the Jessica Simpson, Hannah Montana and other pop culture references—it seems those days for Eminem are over. - Anna Matisak
