500 Ft. of Pipe: “Electrifying Church of the New Light”

Beard of Stars Records Stoner Rock Get ready to take a ride through a wavy dark pipe that is 500 feet in length. Imagine while in there you see Ray Manzerik, swirling images, flashing light and the prince of darkness himself. Now you have the mind mesh of “Turn Me on Baby” and “Marshmallow,” the opening tracks of this Detroit-based album. The groove put out by “Marshmallow” might be one of the best out there in rock ‘n’ roll. With a combo of Bowie, The Doors and Black Sabbath, it’s no wonder they call their sound “drug rock.” Think you can’t mix that with surf-pop punk? That’s exactly what’s in store next as they ride the wave of mutation through “Go” and “Molotov Cocktail.” Influences aside the simplicity of making raw, tough, unfiltered punk rock music is captured. The unique part of this pipe is taking those elements and blending them in a heavy trippy landscape. Ahh, to imagine floating organs, the colorful flowers and the rough leather. Nothing better than a mirage of bikers and hippies.
