Imagine that Shirley Manson of Garbage and Thom Yorke of Radiohead had a musical lovechild; you’d end up with Metric’s front woman, Emily Haines. Lucky for us, she got her looks from her mother. Haven’t heard of Metric? Well, I assure you that your day is coming. The Canadian Indie-rock quartet will unleash their blend of booty-shaking beats, caffeinated guitar riffs, and seductive vocals this Wednesday, May 19, at the House of Blues in Cleveland. The band will later be playing a handful of concerts overseas and return to the States in July for five Lilith Fair shows. They will head back out on the road in the fall with English rock band, Muse, returning to sunny Ohio in November. Somewhat to the dismay of their Indie-rock diehards, Metric has been selected to perform the feature track for this summer’s installment of the Twilight movie saga, Eclipse, due out in June. The band seems to be toeing the line between underground giants and mainstream breakouts. Many of their one hundred and sixty-something thousand Facebook followers have weighed in on the ‘are they sell-outs?’ battle, but the consensus seems to still be one of admiration. To take Metric for an audible test drive, stop by their website, www.ilovemetric.com, or search them out on YouTube. If I can trust their Facebook fans’ opinion, I’d say we’re in for quite the treat on Wednesday, so squeeze into your favorite pair of skinny jeans, pound your PBR, and meet me at the House of Blues. I’ll be the most uncool guy in the room.
