NXNE

Who says things are always bigger in Texas? North by Northeast (NXNE) was established as a response to the popular South by Southwest (SXSW) show that takes place in Austin Texas.Toronto, Canada will be invaded June 14th-20th by a ton of bands and fans alike. .

2010 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Iggy and the Stooges, will be one of the headliners of NXNE this year. Originally formed in 1967 they were instrumental in the development of punk music, as well as having a huge influence on rock, heavy metal and alternative rock music. Iggy and the band have been known for their crazy show antics in the past, including being credited with the invention of stage diving, and basically kicking total ass for the last 40 years plus.

Other bands that will be playing include; the alt-rock Eagles of Death Metal, the retro Raveonettes, Hip Hop legends De La Soul, grunge super-band Mudhoney, and the all time greatest live punk rock band X.

In addition to all these great bands that are coming there will also be a film festival going on at the same time. The majority of films playing have something to do with music, some featuring the artists at the festival. “Suck,” a rock ‘n’ roll vampire movie. “X: The Unheard Music,” a documentary of the band at their peak, and how they changed punk music forever, plus some cool docs about those that have passed: “When You’re Strange: A Film About The Doors,” and “Johnny Cash’s America.”

If all the music and movies weren’t enough, there will also be three days of panels during the week, most of which also have some sort of musical theme, but the topics vary greatly from how to make a living being a songwriter today, to a reflection of how music has grown and developed in Canada, and even a workshop that teaches musicians about the financial aspects of touring. A few of the seminars are for specific groups or by invitation only, but for the most part they are open to the general public too.

If you’re feeling up for a little road trip this summer, and want to have the opportunity to check out over 500 different bands at the same time, take a trip up to Toronto Canada and check out the NXNE show throughout the week, there will always be something fun to do. It’s the most band for your buck that you could possibly get this summer.
