The Speedbumps are coming home to release their new CD “Moon is Down.” The young Kent-based band will play at Blossom Music Center on June 19th. Their unique, soft-spoken musical blend of blues, jazz, folk and indie culminate into a soothing blend, perfect for a long car ride or the last cigarette of the night.
The songwriting of Erik Uryki is moving and articulate, often reflecting on his midwestern roots and dreams of the outside world. It’s sad and slow, but beautiful enough to keep the mood elevated above depressing. The band has found success in recent years, touring across the country from North Carolina to California. They have found an audience with Nick Drake and Elliott Smith fans, who revel in theirĀ solemness, sedated by their tranquil riffs. Other members include Sam Kristoff on cello, Patrick Hawkins on drums, Craig Adams on keys and banjo, and Andrew Bonnis on upright bass and ukelele. With their third album about to be released and an exponentially growing fanbase, there seems to be no slowing down for The Speedbumps.
