Singer/songwriter Jack Johnson just released his fifth studio album To the Sea, a collection of melodic acoustic songs that follow the same style that Johnson has been perfecting since the beginning of his musical career over ten years ago.
In addition to his musical talents Johnson is also a big time environmentalist; he is constantly trying to raise money for environmental education and different groups who are doing positive things in their community. His tour to support To the Sea is even taking steps to be a more ‘green’ tour. 100% of the profits he makes from his tour will be donated to charity. All water backstage will come from a tap, it will also be a ‘zero-waste zone;’ all gas used for the tour buses will be biodiesel. These are just a few of the simple steps that the band is taking to make sure they are environmentally friendly.
Jack’s laid back surfer personality shines through on this album, like it has on all his previous ones and gives fans more of the same sound that they fell in love with in the first place. While you won’t hear any new sounds on this album, you will hear a talented man doing what he loves to do.
On “Red Wine, Mistakes, Mythology” Johnson paints a picture of how our thinking and beliefs have changed over time, and he managed to set it all to a bouncy piano beat at the same time. “Pictures of People Taking Pictures” is a fun song, with lots of repetition in it. “Pictures of people taking/Pictures of people taking/Pictures of people taking pictures” while it might not be a very challenging song, it’s easy and fun to listen to.
Jack Johnson might not have taken any great strides with the release of his latest album, but fans won’t be disappointed with what they hear on To the Sea.
