Metal supergroup Charred Walls of the Damned is a culmination of some of the best musicians on the metal scene together on one stage. Richard Christy, former drummer for Death and Iced Earth and recurring guest on Howard Stern, began putting the group together in the spring of 2009. It’s an all-star cast of Christy’s favorite musicians: Jason Suecof on guitar, Tim “Ripper” Owens on vocals (also of Iced Earth) and Steve Digiorgio on bass. Their self-titled debut album was released earlier this year on February 2nd.
The album received postive reviews overall, due to the group’s ability to create hard, meaty, old-school metal, showcasing their individual talents while never forgetting their roots. They produce a pure, unfiltered heavy sound that invites comparisons to Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, two of the most prolific metal bands ever. Epic riffs and piercing vocals define the album, along with heavy drumming and all-around professionalism that can only come with the experience of true purveyors of metal.
With a strong band chemistry, wide fan base and a dedication to traditional metal, the band is turning heads and ripping ear drums nationwide. They’re a tribute to classic molten metal, yet they don’t lose their individuality or their sense of modernity, which shapes the catchy vocals and powerful riffs. This powerhouse of talent is sure to be the next big thing to happen in the world of metal.
Charred Walls of the Damned are Playing at Peabody’s in Cleveland on Tuesday, July 6th at 7:30.
