Let’s be honest, Deftones is a band that you either love or…you don’t. While you can argue the finer points of nerd town musician criteria or you can just surrender to the loud sexy wall of sound that the Deftones has been producing for the past fourteen years. Deftones will be at the Cleveland House of Blues on September 14, doors at 7:30pm.
Diamond Eyes is the latest offering from Deftones, released in the spring of this year, it had to be pushed back due to leaking issues. It is also the first Deftones album that went forward without bassist Chi Cheng. (Cheng was seriously injured in a car accident in November of 2008, forcing the band to attempt to regroup.) Sergio Vega , former Quicksand bassist, has stepped in for the recovering Cheng.
Their 2010 tour began a month ago and will continue on through December. From what I can surmise from the internets, their set list is pretty expansive. It seems like they will be doing a bunch of tracks from Diamond Eyes with a healthy dose of their “oldies”, like My Own Summer, Be Quiet and Drive as well as Change. All reports are stating that they will be doing a two or three song encore, so make sure you stick around.
Make sure you get there for early enough to see the opener as well. The San Marcos, Texas band, This Will Destroy You has been tapped for the warm up and rightfully so. An instrumental post rock foursome, they produce a tumbling torrent of cinematic music.
In related news, Chi Cheng’s condition remains the same. He has shown signs of improvement. He is currently enlisted in a cutting edge program that employs a doctor’s experimental medicine to bring him from his coma-like state. If you wish to donate your love or funds to Chi, you can go to One Love for Chi to learn more.
