They’re from space. They drink poison from snakes and they are here to save rock n roll. So devoted, in fact, the extra “r” in Thorr is for “rock n roll”. They are Valient Thorr and they’ve parked their spaceship on top of the Grog Shop for the Cleveland leg of their 2010 tour, doors at 9pm.
The Volcom signed band, Valient Thorr specializes in salvaging rock n roll, one rambunctious, furious and ragged sing-along sermon at a time. They are five guys that were seemingly raised by wolves, with dusty beards and long hair. VT leaves the flat irons and combs for candy asses, they are here to straight pulverize with classic guitar rock and rolling tempos with balls-out enthusiasm that will curl your toes. It is nothing but a gut punching good time.
The guys are touring on their latest, just released album. They threw out a riot inciting new song, “Doublecrossed” earlier this month. It was in celebration of their forthcoming new album “Stranger”, slated to release mid-September. Stranger is VT’s fifth album in seven years. It is a loosely framed concept record that hinges on the world going to hell and rallying humankind to cut the crap (hate mongering, materialism, world domination) so that we may evolve to the next level.
Overall, Valient Thorr is an amazing live show that you have to experience. Their shows are less a “concert” and more of a fist pumping, boot slamming, fraternal raucous. There is homage to both Thin Lizzy and the Nuge, without losing the big Valient Thorr picture. Note: Tomorrow Police is a song that MUST be heard live to be believed. Front man Valient Himself usually strips down to his tight pants tucked into wrestling shoes at every show—get to the front because you’re in for a treat.
