Meet Vicki Zawicki. Actually, you’ll be eavesdropping on Vicki Zawicki. Watch her age nearly 50 years before your eyes. From excited teenager to active senior citizen, Vicki will introduce you to “The Six Ages of Woman” through phone conversations with her best friend, Madge.
Mary Faktor, local actor and writer, dreamed up Vicki’s character 29 years ago and has been performing her one-woman comedy show all over the country ever since. “The Six Ages of Woman” is loosely based on the lives and experiences of Faktor and other women she knew, but Faktor only needed one character on stage to tell her story.
“I decided to write my own show so I could perform whenever I wanted,” Faktor says. She didn’t want to be dependent on other people in order to perform, so a one-woman show was the solution.
The audience is introduced to Vicki as a teenager excited about a date. From there we watch her reach milestones in her life with a PG-13 comical twist. She is a newlywed back from her honeymoon, a very pregnant first-time mother-to-be, an overwhelmed housewife, a menopausal woman going back to work and finally an active grandmother.
“It’s 90 percent laugh, 10 percent touch your heart,” Faktor says. “There’s one scene where you can hear a pin drop. I get a message across about talking through things with your marriage.”
It was important for Faktor to weave positive messages into her show. “If there’s something you’ve always wanted to do, do that!” is a message she shares.
“The Six Ages of Woman” will be at the Akron Civic Theatre November 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. with cabaret style seating on the stage for an intimate experience.
Faktor said it will be a great girls night out or couple’s night, and it will bring together the generations to share a womanly experience. But it’s universal humor and men will enjoy it, too.
