December 1 Black Swan Natalie Portman fans rejoice: She’s in a film that features her making out with Mila Kunis. Portman is Nina, a New York City ballerina whose life is consumed by her mother, a former dancer herself. Kunis is a rival ballerina and Nina’s main competition for the lead in Swan Lake. December 3 I Love You Phillip Morris Jim Carrey is Steven Russell, an upstanding policeman who is happily married to Debbie (Leslie Mann). After an awful car accident, he decides to live his life to the fullest—and comes out of the closet. He also establishes a new lifestyle of cons and fraud and lands in the penitentiary, where he meets the meek and sweet Phillip Morris. Steven becomes consumed with freeing Phillip from jail so that they can begin their life together. The impossible con has begun. Night Catches Us It’s the year 1976 on the mean streets of Philadelphia. Marcus, the prodigal son, is an ex-Black Panther who has come home to finally deal with his past. There he crosses paths with an old flame, Patricia, whom, many years before, he had tried to save.  Their love affair plays out just as the race-torn neighborhood, with the Black Power movement on the horizon, forces Marcus to step up. Dead Awake Nick Stahl plays Dylan, a man with a troubled past who’s trying to piece together the mysterious events of his life and its derailment. He fakes his funeral to see who would attend; now all alone, he befriends a junkie and soon gets in touch with a past love. Soon, supernatural forces impact this triangle of quirky characters, and Dylan discovers that no one is who he thought they were. The Warrior’s Way Dong-gun Jang is an Asian assassin who’s forced to hide in a small town in the American Badlands in this action fantasy.  Jang soon meets the town drunk (Geoffrey Rush) and a circus knife thrower (Kate Bosworth), and uncovers a town filled with secrets. Miral After her mother’s death, seven-year-old Palestinian Miral is sent to the Institute, where she is sheltered from the troubles outside in the real world.  But when she turns 17, she is assigned to teach at a refugee camp, where she becomes aware to the truth of her people’s struggle. Miral has to face a difficult choice, caught between education and vehement radicalism. Dec 10 The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader This time, the kids are sucked into Narnia via a painting. Lucy and Edmund return with their cousin Eustace, and the trio meets up with Prince Caspian for a trip across the sea aboard the royal ship, the Dawn Treader. On their way to the edge of the world they come across dragons, dragons, dwarves, mer-folk and, finally, a band of lost warriors. The Fighter This is the biopic of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and his half-brother Dicky (Christian Bale), who helps train him before he goes pro. The movie centers on the trials and tribulations of a hero from a small, blue-collar town outside of Boston. The lightweight boxer’s career is sidetracked by Dicky’s self-destructive drug abuse, but, not happy until he wins big, Micky fights his underdog status. The Tourist American Frank (Johnny Depp) heads to Italy to get over his broken heart. He soon meets Elise, a charming, stunning woman who “accidentally” crosses his path.  Soon, however, Frank begins to realize that he has been lured in to a trap of lies and intrigue: Elise is an Interpol agent who is more than she seems. The Tempest Helen Mirren plays a female version of Shakespeare’s Prospero in this production, seeking revenge against her brother Antonio by creating a ship-wreaking tempest. The star-studded cast includes Russell Brand, Alfred Molina and Chris Cooper. Dec 17 How Do You Know A high-level executive (Paul Rudd) and a professional baseball player (Owen Wilson) find themselves falling for Lisa (Reese Witherspoon). Feeling past her prime and still recovering from a breakup, she makes them compete for her affection. Yogi Bear Hanna-Barbera’s favorite picnic-stealing bears Yogi and Boo Boo are back with Ranger Smith. The gang must stop the mayor’s evil plan to close their home, Jellystone Park. Meanwhile, a documentary filmmaker travels to Jellystone Park to shoot a project and soon meets the three. Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake provide voices. Tron: Legacy Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) is the tech-nerd son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges). Years after Kevin’s strange disappearance, Sam finds himself sucked into the same world of gladiator games that has kept his father hostage for 25 years. Father and son must complete a life-and-death journey through the cyber-universe before they can escape. Rabbit Hole Becca and Howie Corbett (Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart) are a couple dealing with a sudden and shocking loss. Once a happy suburban couple, they’re now embroiled in a mess of memory, longing, guilt and rage. Becca fears routine, but Howie cannot bear change, and they battle sarcasm and accusations. Frankie and Alice Frankie Murdoch (Halle Berry) is a young woman living in Los Angeles in the 1970s and suffering with a severe multiple personality disorder. She violently struggles to retain her true self and avoid being overcome by her racist alter-personality. December 22 Little Fockers Pam and Greg are back as the Focker and Byrnes families prepare to welcome another baby into the fold. Greg has to take a job moonlighting for a drug company while he continues to struggle with his tightly wound father-in-law. Pam’s former suitor Kevin (Owen Wilson) is still in the picture, and Greg is always in jeopardy of breaking the circle of trust. Somewhere Stephen Dorff plays bad-boy Hollywood actor Johnny Marco. He’s a regular in the tabloids, lives at the Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood, drives a Ferrari and fills his time with a long line of fast girls and powerful pills. Then Johnny’s 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) from his failed marriage arrives unexpectedly at the Chateau. Their encounter makes Johnny reconsider his life and his values. Country Strong This drama is built around the life of a rising country-music songwriter (Garrett Hedlund) who becomes romantically entangled with a washed-up country star (Gwyneth Paltrow). The two team up, one to become a star and the other to make her comeback. The relationship hits a snag when problems arise with her husband and manager (Tim McGraw) and a beauty queen-turned-singer (Leighton Meester). Gulliver’s Travels Jack Black is the travel writer Lemuel Gulliver who takes on a fateful assignment in the heart of Bermuda. A shipwreck—and a twist of fate—sends him to the magical island of Liliput, where the people are tiny and Gulliver towers over everything. Will he get home in one piece? December 25 The Illusionist This animated tale centers on an aging French magician who runs out of work and travels to Scotland. There, he meets an enchanting young woman whose friendship, and the adventures that follow, will change his life forever. True Grit Teenager Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) is forced to turn to washed-up, boozy, trigger-happy but tough U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) after her father is murdered.  Determined to find justice, she heads into Indian Territory with Cogburn, where a Texas Ranger (Matt Damon) joins them. December 29 Casino Jack Inspired by the outrageous true events of Jack Abramoff, Jack (Kevin Spacey) is a man hell-bent on having the good life. With the help of his business partner, he throws his weight around with some of the most powerful men in the world with the goal of creating a personal empire of wealth and influence. A mob-connected buddy (Jon Lovitz) weighs in to help with one of their illegal schemes and they soon realize that they are out of their league. Another Year A gripping drama of the emotions that accompany getting old. Three married couples have managed to remain blissfully happy into their golden years. Yet friends, colleagues and family who all seem to suffer some degree of unhappiness surround them over the course of one year. The Debt Helen Mirren plays a former Mossad agent who must return to Eastern Europe to investigate the resurfacing of a Nazi war criminal. In 1965, the young agent and her team went on a secret mission to kill the war criminal; now, 30 years later, a man claiming to be that criminal has resurfaced.  They must go undercover to discover the real truth. December 31 Blue Valentine This is a true story of love found and lost, told in the past and present. Dean and Cindy (Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams) are a couple who have fallen out of love. Struggling with the romantic memories of their pre-marriage relationship, they have one night to salvage their marriage.
