The Capitol Theatre is situated in the heart of the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood’s Gordon Square Arts District and is only a five minute drive from downtown Cleveland. Originally opening in April of 1921 as a vaudeville and silent-movie house, the theater sadly closed its doors in 1985. Thankfully in late 2009, a newly renovated Capitol Theatre was reborn and has been a staple of the area ever since.

This April the theater will celebrated its 90th year. Leading up to the anniversary, the landmark cinema will screen a different classic film on the third Sunday of each month. Each film will begin at 10am and will by projected in beautiful high definition clarity for your viewing pleasure in the theater’s main auditorium. Following the screening, audience members can enjoy several brunch specials in the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood. Those involved include LUXE Kitchen and Lounge, Latitude 41n and Reddstone.

The first film to kick off the series will be the Bette Davis classic All About Eve on February 20th. The film was nominated for 14 Academy Awards, winning six of them including Best Picture. All About Eve is still recognized as the only film in Oscar history to be nominated for four female acting performances.

On March 20th, the Capitol Theatre will screen the Humphrey Bogart starrer The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. The John Huston directed film was also an Oscar favorite bring home awards for Best Directing, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress.

Finally to commemorate the official 90th anniversary on April 17th , the theater will show a special screening of Gone With the Wind that will include a champagne and pastries intermission.

Tickets to the first two films are only $5 and are on sale now. Admission to Gone With the Wind is $10 and will go on sale on February 18th. Tickets can be purchased at the Capitol Theatre box office or online at www.clevelandcinemas.com.
