Annabel: Here We Are Tomorrow

Album Kent has been the home to more than a few gems of the local music scene, which over their existence have made quite a name for themselves on a national level. Harriet the Spy. Party of Helicopters. Six Parts Seven. Since hearing their 2009 debut full-length Each and Everyone, I have added Annabel to that prestigious list. The band is back with their second EP, Here We Are Tomorrow, which is currently available in a beautifully designed 7-inch record thanks to the fine folks at Tiny Engines. Annabel has retained that indie rock sound with just enough punk edge to boast their charm. Listeners will find an early Superchunk feel to their music but the band indeed stays fresh by capturing a sound all their own. What I admire most about Annabel is their ability to maintain an extremely infectious vibe with songs that do not traditionally follow a specific pattern or direction. The clear standout on the four song EP is the glorious “Repetition, Etc.” that will keep your head bopping with its harmonizing vocals and a catchiness that never seems forced. The 7-inch EP contains an mp3 download code for the digitally inclined, which will unlock the stellar “The Secrets of Learning”, a delicately constructed mellower tune equally deserving of a listen. The result is an honest and heartwarming EP making the release a must have for not only those that support local talent but in search of one hell of a band. Annabel’s Here We Are Tomorrow is an incredibly worthwhile feast to the ears. annabel.bandcamp.com/album/here-we-are-tomorrow
