Northeast Ohio Beer Collaboration Finally Out!

So do you remember hearing about a Northeast Ohio beer collaboration from last October’s Cleveland Beer Week festivities that was set to be a wet dream for beer enthusiasts? If not let me give you a refresher course. Twelve breweries from the area including Great Lakes, Fathead’s and Hoppin’ Frog teamed up to create six unique brews for purchase in one neatly packaged 12 pack beer sampler. Orginally it was set for release in October, then Thanksgiving and then Christmas. But nothing came of it. The reason for the delay was well needed government approvals and the complicated decision of who would distribute it (which ended up going to Superior Beverage Group). At last, Ed Thompkins, the beer buyer for Heinen’s, and John Najeway, co-owner of Thirsty Dog Brewing in Akron, confirmed that the 12-pack would finally make it to shelves beginning this week. For the occasion the following brewers paired up to create these one-of-a-kind beers: Great Lakes Brewing and Cellar Rats Brewery, a barrel-aged strong ale; Thirsty Dog and Indigo Imp Brewery, a smoked black lager; Brew Kettle and Willoughby Brewing, a rye kolsch; Fat Head’s Brewery & Saloon and Black Box Brewing, a wet-hopped India pale ale; Hoppin’ Frog and Rocky River Brewing, an imperial American porter; and Buckeye Brewing and Cornerstone Brewing, an alt bier. The 12-pack, which retails for $19.99, can currently be picked up at Heinen’s locations and also plans to ship to other stores including: West Point Market in Akron; Acme Fresh Markets in Akron, Canton, Hudson, Kent, Montrose and Cleveland; select Giant Eagle locations; 101 Bottles in Kent; Buehler’s in Medina; Primo’s Deli in Akron; and Cork & Brew in Akron.
