With a blast of sound, Retox is thrashing its way through hardcore tunes on their full-length debut, Ugly Animals. The band started a year ago and their first EP was up for free download online. Now signed to Mike Patton’s Ipecac Records, home of bands like The Melvins and ISIS, these four guys are making a definite statement with their first full-length album. Each track on this new album is a quick burst of sound – really quick actually (the longest song is a little over two minutes while the shortest is 51 seconds). From the lead singer’s screaming tunes to the hard drum lines and swift guitar styling, Retox proves that they’ve got this whole loud thing down pact. Really, it’s the definition of “hardcore.” When it comes to naming their songs, Retox takes a page out of the punk book. With songs like “Ten Pounds of Shit in a Five Pound Bag” and “Sorry We Just Aren’t Compatible,” we probably just need to sit down with these guys and pick their brains for a bit. This hardcore supergroup out of California definitely provides about 13 minutes of solid head banging quality jams.
