What started 14 years ago as a birthday party has now evolved into one of Southern Ohio’s largest rock festivals. It used to be hosted near Bellefontaine, Ohio, but has outgrown the location and is now hosted in Legend Valley in Thornville, Ohio. As the name implies, the location is pretty illustrious: Legend Valley has been hosting concerts since the mid-’70s and has seen plenty of epic acts come through their grassy fields on their way to rock greatness — everyone from Hank Williams, Jr. to AC/DC. This year’s fest should continue that tradition with over 40 bands performing on two stages. Confirmed national acts include The Kottonmouth Kings, LaZarus AD, Bobaflex, 7th Cycle and Sever. The event organizers also held an open call for unsigned bands to submit demos for a chance to play and showcase their music on their huge stages. Tickets for Woodshock are $40 and VIP passes for $100 are also available. (They offer a private entrance, parking next to the campsites and the chance to party backstage with the bands.) www.woodshock.net
