Review — The Damned Things, “Ironiclast”

The Damned Things Ironiclast You would think having almost half of Anthrax and Fall Out Boy combine would produce something of pretty decent substance. They could, and on “Ironiclast” the balance of the two bands seems to work pretty well. It certainly sounds like Fall Out Boy meets Anthrax. But what’s lacking isn’t effort, it’s stellar songs. Aside from the opening tune “Handbook for The Recently Deceased,” the album really fails to inspire. The band is trying on tracks like “Bad Blood” to score some mainstream love, but it’s been done better. “Friday Night (Going Down in Flames)” and ”We’ve Got A Situation Here” are probably the third and fourth best tunes on the record, but again, the album is certainly frontloaded and everything tends to blend into the same key, same sound and same vibe after that. It’s almost like they put them in order from first to worst. And it’s not that anything is particularly bad, it’s just not particularly that good. “Ironiclast” is a middle of the road album. It’s members of Fall Out Boy and Anthrax killing time in another project that really wasn’t very necessary. In a word: Unmemorable. 5/10 – B.J. Lisko
