Youngstown Pulse/Buzzbin Magazine partner for revamped entertainment monthly

YOUNGSTOWN – The Youngstown Pulse has partnered with Buzzbin Magazine, one of Northeast Ohio’s premier alternative papers, to increase the Youngstown publication’s distribution, promotion and publication schedule. The Pulse will now come out the first Thursday of every month starting with the relaunch issue under the Buzzbin banner on Oct. 6, with nearly quadruple the circulation. The Pulse publisher, award-winning journalist B.J. Lisko, revamped the paper in 2009 and began the process of turning the paper into the go-to source for music and entertainment happenings in the Mahoning Valley. However, Lisko’s work schedule as the sports editor for The Salem News, as well as freelance graphic design work, afforded him limited time to produce the engaging content featured in the Pulse on a regular basis, lending the paper a niche feel. The trials and tribulations of producing a monthly alternative paper with integrity and substance was familiar territory for Buzzbin Magazine owner Michael Nasvadi, who started the paper in 2008 to cover the Canton and Akron areas’ burgeoning art and music scenes. In the three years since its inception, Buzzbin has established itself not only in the original markets, but has also expanded into covering the competitive Cleveland area. Buzzbin has grown from running off 10,000 copies to currently reaching a monthly readership of 90,000, with content developed by a homegrown staff of talented contributing writers and designers that carry out Nasvadi editorial direction. “We’ve talked about expanding to Youngstown and had known about the Pulse.  What we found was a well written and engaging paper that held similar ideas and beliefs to Buzzbin. We figured the path of least resistance was to work with the Pulse instead of compete against it right away.” Nasvadi said. “We knew we had to work with B.J. to make the move. We approached Lisko and now we’re ready to roll.” Under the new partnership the Pulse will have the full editorial and advertising support of Buzzbin’s network, offering the fundamentals that made Buzzbin what it is today; a huge market reach with an eclectic mix of content to run along side fairly priced ads promoting business that share the publisher’s visions and passions. In addition to the expanding content and circulation, the Pulse now also has a new online home at YoungstownPulse.com. “The website is all-inclusive,” Lisko said. “Almost everything I’ve ever written for the Pulse and then some is archived on the site.” The new site will also encompass Buzzbin articles and events, as well as a comprehensive events calendar that will allow anyone to post events to. “With both the website and the magazine, we’re finally going to make the Pulse truly representative of what’s going on in the Mahoning Valley,” Lisko said. “Mike has established Buzzbin as the ‘What To Do’ paper in Northeast Ohio, and now the Pulse will carry that distinction as well.” #### For more information please contact: Michael Nasvadi, Buzzbin Editor-in-Chief; 330-265-5005 Nicholas Saddleton, Buzzbin Sales Director; 330-962-8146 B.J.
