AKRON – The Akron Civic Theatre will present the Helen Welch: Notes from the Silver Screen on October 20, 2011 at 7:30pm.
Helen Welch is a critically-acclaimed vocalist whose live stage performances explore a diverse range of musical compositions, starting with the 1930s up through present-day. Helen Welch and her trio of musicians will take you on a magical musical journey featuring songs from well-loved films such as: Sweet Charity, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the Sound of Music, Singing in the Rain, Alfie, the Wizard of Oz, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Disney favorites such as Lady and the Tramp, The Aristocats and 101 Dalmations, hidden treasures from A Star is Born and Two for the road, Classics from Singing in the Rain and Top Hat and even a song composed by Charlie Chaplin.
A native of England, Helen is well-known throughout the United Kingdom for her musical theatre roles and 1-woman shows. Upon moving to the U.S. in 2003, she began appearing in venues throughout the Northeast and immediately began cultivating a devoted group of fans. Helen possesses a knack for choosing songs that stand the test of time and making them her own. The audience hears them and falls in love all over again.
Helen Welch: Notes from the Silver Screen will have one performance on Thursday, October 20 at 7:30pm. The performance is part of the Big Night Out series presented at The Civic with the support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Additional support is provided by the Ohio Arts Council, the Akron Community Foundation, the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation, the GAR Foundation and the Kenneth Calhoun Charitable Trust.
