Ever wanted to know the history behind the wonderfully demented world of tattoo and piercing? How about health and safety concerns to avoid that run in with your buddy that claims he knows everything there is to know about marking your body? Rob Church and Blair Atom of Art Bomb Tattoos have teamed with the Massillon Museum to teach a free class on tattooing and body piercing this Wednesday.
According to Church, the point of the class is introduce what is important in the world of tattoos and body piercing. He hopes that the course will educate attendees on the basic information each and everyone should no before stepping into a tattoo studio.
“The class is going to focus on quality and safety,” he said. “Safety is probably our biggest point in all of this.”
Church insures that the course will cover a ton of crucial information that those interested in getting a tattoo or body piercing should now about and what to steer clear of. Too many people fall victim to people who Church calls “kitchen wizards.” Fair not, the Art Bomb team will get you prepared.
“We see people that come in a lot that say their friend is doing it in their garage for less, and we hope to connect with those people,” he said. “We want to show them that we’re not really thumbing our noses at them, but we are genuinely concerned for public health.”
The one thing Church stresses, however, is that the class is not designed to teach anyone to tattoo or body pierce though he hopes those that may want to get into a career in it will also be in attendance.
“Hopefully a lot of people will be there, especially people interested in doing tattoos or those already doing them,” Church said. “If you do a bad tattoo or bad piercing, that’s one thing, but if you pass on a disease because of it you’re doing a great injustice to everyone.”
So what are you waiting for? Join Church and Atom at the Massillon Museum on Nov. 2 from 6PM to 8PM. The Massillon Museum is located at 121 Lincoln Way East while Art Bomb Tattoos is right down the street at 32 Erie Street North in Massillon.
