Christkindl Markt, a Canton holiday tradition, celebrates its 40th year November 11, 12 and 13. Organized by Canton Fine Arts Associates, an affiliate group of the Canton Museum of Art, Christkindl Markt is a juried, holiday-inspired arts and crafts show which attracts visitors from across the state. This year’s Markt will feature 100 exhibitors throughout the Cultural Center for the Arts. (See exhibitors at www.cantonchristkindl.org)
The Christkindl Markt Committee, chaired by Linda Lawrence, has been planning and coordinating details of this highly anticipated event since January, enlisting more than 90 volunteers. Says Lawrence, “We’re excited to present our 40th Markt and kick-off the holiday season with a wonderful opportunity for shoppers to find one-of-a-kind, affordable gifts.”
Unique features of Christkindl Markt include a Christkindl Café and Markt Bistro, offering snacks, lunch and dinner fare on-site. Visitors can also find an array of home-made candies in the Sweet Shoppe, (Canton Fine Arts volunteers are making 7,000 Buckeyes, as well as a variety of fudge, bark, holiday cookies and chocolate covered pretzels). A used book sale, $1000 Andreas Furniture Raffle and silent auction are also popular Markt attractions. But it is the art and craft items which have made the Christkindl Markt famous in Northeastern Ohio. Hand-made items include glassware, jewelry, pottery, paintings, photography, floral arrangements and holiday items. Proceeds benefit the Canton Museum of Art.
