Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor Tour Starts in Cleveland 11/11

November 11 – Cleveland – The Symposium New album to drop day of Cleveland show, at The Symposium! Get ready for the true spirit of DIY to inhabit your eardrums. Psych rock trio, Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor, are about to release the most finely-tuned representation of their spacey, psychedelic aesthetic: Spectra Spirit, nine tracks unified by tone, mood and a sound only vintage equipment and painstaking labor can produce. The album, to be released by New Fortune Records on Nov. 11, will be pressed on translucent yellow vinyl, and feature screen printed artwork by Sisters bassist, Eric Oppitz. Tying all of these elements together will be the tour the band will launch in support of the new record, where audiences can pick up the new record, hear the tunes and see the stunning live visuals, all in one place. Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor not only write and perform moody, electrifying psych rock, they also record it in their aptly named Space Camp Studios, and put on a live light show that could make anyone flash back. Sean Morrow (guitar, vocals), Eric Oppitz (bass, organ) and Rick Sawoscinski (drums, percussion) are unified in their pursuit of SOYSV’s vision. Oppitz, a trained designer, designs and prints the artwork for album covers, silk-screened posters and other merch; Morrow, whose voice has been compared to Jim Morrison’s, handles a majority of the booking; while Sawoscinski keeps their gear in tip-top shape. With their latest release, Spectra Spirit, SOYSV have finely tuned this aesthetic. The album represents a move toward a unified concept and mood, and away from a collection of distinct psych pop structured songs. “Each song was crafted in such a way to flow right into the next,” says Oppitz. “With this record we broke up the big wall of sound songs with the addition of more airy mellow songs that focus on layered vocals. There is a switch between bass and organ to add more dynamic and different tonal quality:’ Since they opened Space Camp Studios, Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor have been collecting new analog equipment, and the difference can be heard on Spectra Spirit; the sound of which was not only effected by the quality of gear, but by the limitations it put on the band during recording. “This record was recorded on ½ inch 8 track tape. It gets a little scary sometimes when you have these types of limitations because you are forced to make decisions up front;’ says Oppitz. The tape rolling really forced us to focus on the live performance of the songs, and inspired us to be very creative on the production end of things”. The nine tracks of Spectra Spirit form a unit of tone and mood with variations found in every track. “Green Eyes and Dream” has Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor conjuring up Ian Curtis and Syd Barrett for a collaboration you’d swear (and hope) happened. You’ll hear eastern influences on the five-course Indian meal that is “Sweet Girl Insanity;’ and the dark, moody “Black Mind” would make Ray Manzarek proud. Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor has shared the stage with The Black Angels, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Dead Meadow, The Duke Spirit, Acid Mothers Temple; joined the elite ranks of psych bands at Austin’s Psych Fest 3 and their recordings are downloaded by fans from around the globe. Their contributions to their local scene show their taste for bigger than life opportunities: They’ve rung in the New Year with hundreds of Detroiters two years in a row at The Magic Stick; their brain-child, Echo Fest, celebrating local psych bands, doubled in size in 2011; and Space Camp Studios has recorded, mixed, and produce six other full length records for Detroit area artists in the last year.
