Opening Reception – Friday, November 11, 6pm-10pm
Harris Johnson’s recent work investigates prevailing notions surrounding the life of the working artist. Darkly humorous and refreshingly candid, each piece is created through a hybrid of traditional painting techniques and ‘cartooning’ , and uses subject matter pulled from art history, pop culture and straight off a studio floor. When viewed as a whole, these paintings begin to construct a snappy and subtly irreverent dialogue about artistic practice, while also painting an amusing portrait of the artist himself. – Ivy Garrigan CIA Reinberger Galleries.
Join Harris Johnson and guests at the Arts Collinwood Gallery to view the paintings at the opening reception on November 11th. The Café at Arts Collinwood will be open as well for dinner/drinks before and during the opening from 6pm-10pm.
A Gallery Talk with the artist will be hosted by local artist, professor, writer and Arts Collinwood Gallery Committee member, Dan Tranberg on Thursday, November 17th at 7pm at Arts Collinwood.
The show will remain installed through December 3.
