Heads Up Productions has received a $600 grant from Burners Without Borders (BWB) to facilitate the “Heads Up ‘Hood” workshop at schools or community organizations. The grant provides the opportunity for organizations to cover over half the costs associated with producing the workshop. Due to BWB’s generosity, 4 organizations will be able to participate for only $150.

“Heads Up Hood” is designed to teach about the nature of discrimination and prejudice firsthand. Participants who have, in many cases, never been part of any underrepresented group are asked to take on such a role. The oppressiveness of the simulated activity soon becomes an emotionally frustrating experience for participants, who get very involved in the activity. The simulation serves as instrumental ground work for the discussion that follows.

In the discussion, participants will look at how they’ve treated others and why. They will explore stereotypes they hold and how those stereotypes affect their interactions with others. They will be asked to examine these ideas on a global scale. Finally, participants will be able to apply these lessons in their everyday life. This will reduce prejudice while promoting tolerance and understanding.

Heads Up Productions will help each organization to develop an action plan to deal with discrimination and prejudice within their community. Participants who carry out the action plan will have the opportunity to be interviewed on Heads Up Arts Radio and win various prizes.

This workshop is designed for 6-100 participants who are in middle school and older. This workshop can be held as part of a school, work or community function. Please email info@headsupproductions.net for inquiries.
