Ice Ice Baby – January First Friday Full of Frozen Fun

All right stop. Collaborate and listen. Ice is back with an icy competition… Whether it’s vanilla or tutti-fruity, the flavor is fun as Ice Ice Baby rings in the New Year on January 6 with the First Friday of 2012. First Friday will be serving up frosty delights all around town, as more than 20 ice sculptures with will be giving a whole new meaning to on the rocks as professional and local artists chisel, fire, cut and form solid blocks of ice into art. Returning again this year will be world champion ice sculptor Aaron Costic, who along with some other extremely talented carvers, will have an ice show-down with the first round of the Speed Carving Competition beginning at 7pm, at 4th Street NW, with the winner chosen at 9 p.m. by popular vote. Buzzbin Magazine and Goose Island get into the night with Froth Fest, a unique trio of drinks, bands and chainsaws featuring two stages with the likes of Ohio Joe and the Continental Drifters, Dolly Rocker Ragdoll, Johnny & the Applestompers, the Most Beautiful Losers and Viva le Vox. For the “in” crowd, music will be within the walls of Anderson Creative (Joshua Beaver); Second April Galerie (Jeff King at 6 p.m. and Sherman Miller Trio at 8 p.m.); the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography (Brian Henke); and Room and Board at The Auricle from 8-11 p.m. And that’s just for starters.
