We caught up with Dalin Jones, bassist and vocalist of Son Of Neckbeard, Canton, Ohio’s own horror rock band.
Here’s our 10 questions for Son of Neckbeard:

Who the hell is Neckbeard?
Neckbeard is the being. He is the alpha and omega. He is the creator. He’s so much bigger than anyone could ever be. We always pictured him as some type of Viking god, but it takes so many parts to be a god. So we’re the Son of Neckbeard.

Tell me about what inspires your sound?
There’s just a really broad spectrum. We’re fans of everything from Sleep, FuManchu and all the way back to bands like The Doobie Brothers and Pink Floyd. Really, it’s such a conglomerate. It’s really hard to pinpoint anything.

Is this the band’s first album?
Yes. It’s our only recording actually. We consider it full length even though it’s seven songs. It’s really been in the making for a long time. The albums been in the works for about two years. Luckily Loser Heart Records decided to pick it up and press it for us, so that’s even better.

Is the song writing a collaborative process?
It’s collaborative. One of two of us will have a basic riff and everybody will just do their part.

Planning a tour?
Nothing big. You know, something that’s in our region and close to home. Nothing really out of the state.

Who is your favorite Ohio band?
That’s a tough one. Here lately I’ve been a big fan of Mocking Bird, their sound is so heavy. It just appeals to me like that.

What makes a good album and a good band?
You have to be real with your song writing. You can’t listen to the radio and be like, “Oh! we’ve got to capture that sound.” What makes a good band is just being able to actually put conviction behind what you’re doing.

If Dracula and Frankenstein’s Monster battled, who would win and why?
Frankenstein’s monster. He’s unstoppable. He’s already dead, so you can’t kill him. It’s because he’s Frankenstein’s monster!

Would you compare Son of Neckbeard to Frankenstein’s monster?
Absolutely. Absolutely.

If you could be any animal what would it be?
Probably a porcupine. Everybody says I’m hard to handle. It’s a facade.

How would you weigh your head?
How would I weigh it? I would use a scale. I would just lay it on the scale.

Would you rather be on a sinking ship or in a burning building?
A burning building because I’m afraid of drowning. I don’t want to drown.

Would you rather get an old fashioned from Edward Scissor Hands or Michael Jackson?
What day of the week is it?
It’s Friday.
Edward Scissor Hands. It would just be creepy having Michael touch you.

To wrap things up, what is your favorite curse word?
Fuck.

Son of Neckbeard plays tonight (2/3) at The Carriage House.
