New John Carter of Mars Trailer

Yesterday we told you about the Avengers Super Bowl Ad and how awesome it looked. Today we’re going to give you an extended look at the extended trailer for the upcoming John Carter. This movie has been a long-time coming. John Carter is the main character in the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel “The Princess of Mars,” and has since been serialized, appeared in a story with Tarzan (another Burroughs creation) and adapted into a movie costarring Tracy Lords. The current adaptation has had its own series of problems. Robert Rodriguez was originally set to direct the film, but when he dropped out of the Director’s Guild he was taken off the project. He was replaced by Kerry Conran (Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow), who was replaced by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), who was ultimately replaced by Andrew Stanton, one of Pixar’s brightest animation directors – he directed Finding Nemo and Wall-E, among others. This will be his first live-action project, but with the enormous amount of CGI that went into this film (and how seamless it looks in the trailer), we’re guessing he felt right at home. John Carter is the story of a Civil War veteran that hides in a cave to escape a bunch of Apache Indians and ends up on Mars, in the middle of a war. He goes all Conan on the place because he suddenly has super powers, and eventually captures a princess. The John Carter stories came before Tarzan and inspired people like Ray Bradbury and Arthur C. Clark. It spawned a genre of science-fiction romances that still continues in many forms to this day, and it could do the same thing for films if it is handled well. Let’s take another look, this time at a longer trailer. Let me know what you think in the comments!
