Continuing its reputation of displaying the work from artists all over the world, Studio 2091 will host Irish artist Daire Lynch this month. Lynch is originally from Dublin but is currently living in Cong, County Mayo on Ireland’s west side. He is a self-taught artist and also a sound engineer. “Music is as much a part of my life as painting, though it is painting that pays my bills. When I paint, I like to listen to film scores, classical or instrumental work, so as not to have my thoughts corrupted by the lyrics of others,” said Lynch. Lynch has been creating art as long as he can remember. His mother still has drawings from when he was a preschooler of UFOs and kings’ heads on spikes along turrets. His work these days is mostly composed of oil paintings and watercolors, but he still occasionally experiments with other techniques in charcoals, pastels, and clay. One of Lynch’s recognizable techniques that has become very popular is his watercolor portraits. These portraits are created in just one color, blue. “I paint in French Ultramarine as I find it the most diverse color to use. It can be gentle. It can be evocative. It can convey a lot with a simple monotone,” said Lynch. It’s almost unbelievable how much detail he can incorporate into the portraits while using such a limited color palette. Another unique part of Lynch’s recent style is a lack of eyes in his oil figuratives. He leaves them just blank and black.  Keeping the eyes hollow makes the piece more about the form, as it should be, instead of about the person. The pieces that will be on display are a collection of female figurative works and Lynch’s signature “Rooks.” The title of the show, “Burds,” is Dublin slang for women. The opening reception will be March 16th starting at 6 p.m. at Studio 2091 in Cuyahoga Falls and will be on display through the end of the month.
