You don’t need to be a fashionista to get into the groove of April 6th’s First Friday, themed Sew Artistic.  Even those who don’t know their tweed from their tulle will be biased about another great night in the Canton Arts District.  Fabric will flowing freely as hand-painted scarves, crocheted handbags and threaded headwear will be hemmed in next to the fabulous costumes designed by Jackson School for the Arts’ production of Tartuffe, at Second April Galerie.  Fabric art and tapestry from Marge May, Karen Bogdan and Phyllis Groves will adorn the walls of Lynda Tuttle’s Art Education Center, and stunning wall hangings from Clouded Quilt Creations  will be displayed, alongside jewelry demonstrations at Creative Ohio gallery.  MOLA will be showing one-of-a-kind textiles pieces while kids, of all ages can design and digest stitched art, created for consumption, at the cre8 classroom in the annex of Second April. Collette Wasdahl Fashion Design will be open for business, inviting guests to try on their vintage-inspired clothing and get snapped up in the excitement by having photos taken and posted on Face book with prizes awarded for the most ‘likes.’  Thrift Cut will be selling vintage clothing, and Mac Worthington’s flags will be “painted” with his masterful welding techniques at Journey Studios. Other art includes that of Nancy Stewart Matin (2nd April); Rick Huggett’s ‘The Wonder Bread series,’ at MOLA; photos by Danny Vega and “Stirring the Fire,” the latest exhibit at Translations Gallery and featuring the global movement of empowering women and girls.  Evolution Art will be celebrating their one year anniversary with free cupcakes; Subway will be giving away cookies and hosting the music of Lare Sattler.  The Ananda Center will be dancing and drumming and the fast feet of Andrew Fulmer Dancers will offer free ballroom lessons. Other beats woven into the evening include White Buffalo Woman, As If, Blonde Boy Grunt and Powder Hounds on Buzzbin’s outdoor stage, Jeff Poulos at Canton Glassworks, Brian Waller at Carpe Diem and the Canton Idol singers, including Scenic Route at the Motter & Meadows outdoor lot and Red Wanting Blue at The Auricle .  All downtown restaurants will be open and ready to provide seamless service.   Sew … what are you waiting for?  Needle your friends to make it a date:  First Friday April 6 is Sew Artistic.  Download the map and any additional details you need at www.cantonfirstfirday.com.  First Friday is sponsored by Stark Community Foundation and presented by the downtown Canton Special improvement District and ArtsinStark.
