The Ridges Band

The Massillon Museum will host The Ridges for the final Rhythms concert of this season on Friday, May 25. The doors will open at 7:30 p.m.; the concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. The event, which will be held in the Museum’s second-floor gallery, is open to everyone. Tickets ($15; $12.50 for Museum members; $10 for students with ID; $17 online) are available in advance at the Massillon Museum by phone at 330.833.4061 or online at massillonmuseum.org. Tickets will be sold at the door if seats remain when the doors open for the concert. The Ridges, an orchestral folk rock band, blends indie rock melodies with moody folk sensibility and live improvisation. The group combines haunted acoustic instrumentation with rich vocal harmonies and layered songwriting to create a unique theme of dark romanticism. Their style accents the mysterious and macabre theme of The Big Read 2012, Western Stark County Reads the Short Stories and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, as well as the upcoming summer exhibition, The Odditorium. The three-piece acoustic act is formed from the collaboration of longtime musical duo Victor Rasgaitis and Johnny Barton with the classical styling of Taylor Smith. The band’s name, taken from the notoriously haunted Victorian landmark building that was formerly the Athens Asylum near Ohio University, illustrates the group’s fascination with folklore and classical influences as well as their deep-rooted connection to Athens, Ohio. Wine will be available for purchase before the concert and during intermission. Sponsors of the Museum’s Rhythms music series include: Larry and Maude Slagle; ArtsinStark; the Ohio Arts Council; Massillon Cable TV; Massillon Eagles #190; Canton Chair Rental; Buzzbin Magazine; A Better Home Health Care; Aqua Ohio; Dick Leffler, CPA; David C.
