MASSILLON’S FREAK OUT FRIDAY: THE EERIE STREET SIDESHOW

BY BEATRICE BACHLEDA

FREAKY STUFF! Massillon’s Thirteenth Floor Gallery is known for its “bizarre, macabre, and disturbing artwork and shows,” owner Billy Ludwig said proudly. The Eerie Street Sideshow is no exception: The circus-themed show is a spectacle to remember and lives up to Thirteenth Floor’s reputation.
On Friday, July 13 (note the eerie date) the doors will open at 6 p.m. — but don’t expect a typical gallery viewing, and don’t assume you’ll be getting out while the night is young.
Discordia, a fire-breathing female cabaret who aren’t afraid to get hot will be lighting up the stage with corsets and lots of sparks. Psychic Debra Robinson will be on hand to tell you how many beers will eventually kill you. She will be doing tarot and palm readings, and probably crushing your dreams all night.
Buck up, though, because with a musical lineup that includes HotChaCha, Stoneslinger, Filmstrip, Dolly Rocker Ragdoll, and Steve Trent, it’d be hard to feel down. Listen while perusing the art, where Ludwig, also of Impale Design, will be displaying his sideshow-themed art and Megan Mars will have her slightly surrealistic female-centric work on exhibition.
Other artists include Bili Kribbs, whose ingenious artwork is cartoonish, bright and vivid, but with something sinister about them, and Andy Dreamingwolf, whose images draw you in with expressive faces full of repressed emotions. Ludwig also promised “a couple more surprises that will occur through the night.” You’ll just have to show up to find out. Admission is free.
