CLEVELAND BEER WEEK

With October comes one of the craft-beer world’s most anticipated events of the year — Cleveland Beer Week. Now in its fourth year, this brew-tastic week, which runs from Oct. 19 through Oct. 27, features hundreds of craft-beer tastings, dinners, demonstrations, activities and educational programs. You won’t want to miss countless specials at bars, restaurants, and grocers throughout Cuyahoga County. Established in 2009 as the first event of its kind in Northeast Ohio, Cleveland Beer Week is a not-for-profit, collaborative celebration that raises awareness of the craft-beer industry. The week will start things off right with what has been deemed Collaboration Kickoffs. The official opening ceremony will feature five locations per neighborhood (East 4th, Lakewood, Tremont, Ohio City, Coventry) pouring collaboration beers — small-batched brews that will not be bottled — specially brewed by local breweries for Cleveland Beer Week. These collaborations will be available: Great Lakes and Cellar Rats creating Wet-Hopped Pale Ale; Market Garden, Rocky River Brewing and Indigo Imp unveiling Tallboy, a wet-hopped brown ale; Brew Kettle and Willoughby Brewing with Hoppy Hellesbock; Buckeye Brewing, Ohio Brewing and Black Box unleashing Nut Brown Ale with Maple Syrup; Fat Heads and Chardon BrewWorks bringing Smoked Maple Imperial Bacon Stout; Thirsty Dog, Cornerstone Brewing, and LagerHeads cracking Belgian Style Dubble with Plums. Advance tickets are required at $25/person and include samples of all collaborative beers across five locations in your chosen neighborhood, as well as a commemorative T-shirt. Another flagship event will be Culture Yourself: A Premier Beer and Cheese Pairing, featuring a night of obsessive beer-and-cheese pairings. This intriguing night will feature beer from 12 top breweries and over 30 artisanal, locally produced cheeses. Meet the brewers and cheesemakers themselves and discover your favorite beer and cheese pairings. Tickets are $35 per person and include 25 two-ounce beer samples with cheese pairings. One of the highlights of the week comes with the beloved Ales on Rails. Heidelberg Distributing hosts this ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad that includes a scrumptious boxed supper, courtesy of Winking Lizard, and seven delicious craft brews. Advance tickets are required and range from $45 to $80, depending on car selection. As with each year, the almighty tastings of tastings takes place on the closing night with the unforgettable Brewzilla, which featuring more than 80 breweries, a special “Ohio Brewery” area with various beers from local breweries ,and fantastic appetizers that pair well with the brews. Brewer’s Circle tickets are $75 and include tastes of rare/exclusive brews and Heinen’s food pairings in the Brewer’s Circle Lounge, open all evening; a three-ounce tasting glass; 25 tasting tickets; a commemorative T-shirt; and access to all General Admission beers/food.
