Akron’s own hamburger festival attracts more than 30,000 visitors every year and was featured on the Food Network’s show “Unwrapped.” Held over two days, this festival provides live entertainment, a kid’s zone and plenty of great food (read: hamburgers) from chefs and restaurants around the country. There’s also a “bobbing for burgers” competition that’s a blast to watch. Don’t forget to submit your entry for the Best Amateur Burger Competition — the winner gets bragging rights and a prize package valued at $100. Naturally there are burger-eating contests, and live music ...
The eighth annual Vexfest is back again to offer fest-goers over 40 bands on four stages. The free music festival drew more than 8,000 attendees to Federal Street West in Youngstown last year, and this year’s event, in the same location, is expected to draw even more people. While the all-day music fest does feature acts from all over the country, fest organizers try to keep the lineup as local as possible. Headlining this year’s event is electronic psychedelic duo Boombox, consisting of DJ/Engineer Russ Randolph and DJ/producer Zion Rock Godchaux. Live Randolph handles the drumming while ...

But here’s the best part: Avalon Resort is one of West Virginia’s premier clothing-optional resorts. That’s right! You can take swing dance lessons while you're swinging and get buff in the buff in the weight room. They even have karaoke, so everyone can truly rock out with their cock out....

What started 14 years ago as a birthday party has now evolved into one of Southern Ohio’s largest rock festivals. It used to be hosted near Bellefontaine, Ohio, but has outgrown the location and is now hosted in Legend Valley in Thornville, Ohio. As the name implies, the location is pretty illustrious: Legend Valley has been hosting concerts since the mid-’70s and has seen plenty of epic acts come through their grassy fields on their way to rock greatness — everyone from Hank Williams, Jr. to AC/DC. This year’s fest should continue that tradition with over 40 bands performing on two st...
Rootwire is an anti-establishment, livetronica festival in Kaeppner’s Woods in Logan, Ohio. Void of cheesy headliners and big corporate sponsorship, the fest shows what people can do when they pool resources towards a common goal. This year the festival will host over 50 musical acts on three stages, plus a silent disco stage, a live-art circus tent and over 50 visual artists. The festival, now in its second year, is more than just art and music: It also features performers from varied fields like hooping and poi performers, who perform in front of the stages on raised platforms as part of t...
If you live in a 50-mile radius of Canton, Ohio, you’ve heard of the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, celebrating the highest individual honor awarded in the NFL. In past years, the festivities have begun with a beauty pageant at the end of May and culminated with the Hall of Fame game in August. This year, however, with the NFL season in peril of being canceled, the HOF game is tentative. Still, the induction will feature plenty of festivities for both NFL enthusiasts and non-sports fans, from concerts and fireworks shows to hot-air balloon demonstrations and the Rib Burnoff. The centerpiec...

The Ohio State Fair was established in 1850 and since then it’s only gotten bigger and better. Expect all the old-school fair favorites, including pig races, midway games, baking contests and, of course, rides. Kids will like the exhibits like NASA’s “Journey to Tomorrow,” a hands-on exhibit with a moon rock. The fair also launched a phone app to help the 800,000+ annual attendees organize their visit. — it includes a food finder (try the deep-fried buckeyes) and fair schedule. Headliners include Ke$ha (really), Meatloaf, Seether (performing with Sevendust), Loretta Lynn, Trace Adkin...
