On Friday, February 1, downtown Canton got another welcomed addition to the city's booming art's district, Frankenstein Records. With more than 35,000 records, a slew of independent books, local music, posters and artwork, Frankenstein Records promises to be Canton's newest one-stop vinyl shop. It gets better — this monster is owned by one of the Canton music scene's longest supporters, Chris Bentley, of The Most Beautiful Losers, and he's making damn sure the Canton music scene keeps growing. The Losers are gracefully gearing down the national touring life after years of being one of the...

Canton's art scene is in the middle of a renaissance thanks to organizations like ArtsinStark. The city already boasts more than 20 art galleries, shops and studios and it just gained another, The Hub Gallery and Studio, brainchild of Tim Carmany. Twenty-seven-year-old Carmany grew up in Huntington, Ohio. Believe it or not, visual art wasn't his first love, it was theater, "I really love all aspects of theater. It's a high art form that hasn't yet seen it's pinnacle." He spent his free-time perusing acting while he was in high school. Writing, acting, producing and directing interested h...

"I was frustrated by Miami. It's a DJ town. They'd rather pay a guy to sit behind his iMac than have a musician. It's frustrating," says Diablo Dimes, a man who yearns for the days when the blues made an impact because, he says, "nowadays, nobody gives a shit." Any man who lives as a myth is hard to pin down. Dimes is no different. He's asked that his real name not be disclosed in this article, and it won't be. He wants to remain mysterious, but where exactly does a man like Diablo Dimes come from? The crushed bones of jazz legends of the past, reanimated by some voodoo doctor? Perhaps. Dim...

If you're a live-music fan living in the Akron or Cleveland areas then you've probably experienced the high-energy Zydeco romp that is Mo' Mojo. The band's garnered a reputation for good ole' jam-band, Cajun-inspired fun. Unfortunately with many jam bands – yes, I would consider Mo' Mojo a jam band – something is lost in translation from live performance to recording studio. Even The Grateful Dead felt limited when restricted to the four walls of a sound booth. The spontaneity suffers. Mo' Mojo, however, doesn't fall victim to the confinement of the studio. The band's latest album, "Tog...

On Saturday, April 14, at Public Hall in downtown Cleveland, the 27th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place. The tradition began with inductees like Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley and Ohio’s own Alan Freed. Here’s a rundown of some of this year’s class. GUNS N’ ROSES - 1987 was the year of Prozac, “The Simpsons” and Guns N’ Roses’ debut LP “Appetite for Destruction.” Before airwaves buzzed with “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Paradise City,” GNR was just another hair band trying to make it in L.A.’s clu...

Jack Black and Kyle Gass just released a music video titled "To be the Best." The video is whetting their fan's appetites ahead of the band's May 15th release of a new album, "The Rize of the Fenix." The video features the rise, fall and rebirth of the band in a kind of tabloid show format. Also appearing are a slew of celebrities. This summer Tenacious D is hitting the road. They recently announced a 16-date U.S. tour to promote the new album. ...

Warren, Ohio, is known as the birthplace of Foo Fighters' drummer David Grohl, the home of the National Packard Museum and lately, the go-to place for men who want to blow money in one of the city’s 10 massage parlors. No pun intended. Now, the Warren City Council is fighting back with new legislation designed to regulate massage parlors and all the sordid acts that everybody knows of but nobody talks about. (Until now: See Rory Axelrod’s investigative report for a shocking behind-the-scenes glimpse of what some of the parlors offer.) Ohio has 23 registered massage parlors. Ten of them...

Buzzbin recently got in touch with the harmonica playing sexy country star, Stacie Collins. We discussed what it was like to be on the road, her history with Cleveland and her love of music. Below is the transcript of our conversation. Go ahead and tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get started? What inspired you? Well, I married a musician. I was a music lover and through my association with my husband Al, who plays bass, I had the opportunity to be immersed in the rock and roll world. He was in bands previously, he was always touring. But eventually we discovered that we h...

Cajun Dave’s in Kent’s Water Street Tavern isn’t a typical college-town eatery. It’s better than that — a little taste of Southern-style comfort foods right here in Northeast Ohio. It’s an unspoken rule that most college restaurants serve low-quality, cheap food in mass quantities, hoping to score customers via outrageous marketing campaigns. Cheap, fast and stylish: That’s what customers expect from restaurants near universities. And for many students, the bar is set so low that anything tastier than ramen noodles is orgasmic. Cajun Dave’s is different. It’s like chef ...

"Mistakes Were Made", Davey Porter and the Young Republican's first album, is a tongue in cheek tar and feathering of the government, the GOP, George Bush and the conservative movement in America that has as much in common with Stephen Colbert than it does punk rock staples like Green Day and The Misfits. It's punk rock humor at its highest level. Punk Rock is often political in nature a la Green Day's "American Idiot" album. In fact, insulting the man is a major pillar of punk rock. "Mistakes Were Made" takes the genres antiestablishment sentiments to the extreme. Song titles include: "Get...
