Since 1959 the Grammy Awards have been the most prestigious musical awards given to musical artists. The process of deciding who receives the award is largely the same as it was 50 years ago. Members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences vote on the winners in 70+ categories. Every voting member is either a producer, a performer or a sound engineer in the music industry. So you'd think they'd give credit where credit is due. They often get it right, but not always. The following artists have never won an award in regular competition. The Beach Boys (7 nominations) Though T...

Powder Hounds is two-pieced band formed in 2011 by Kent musicians Ryan Molnar and Andrew Bittaker. The band’s name stems from its members’ pseudonyms: Ronnie “Rails” Hounds and Andy Powder, who together make a wave of power, raw energy and innovation. Molnar, a.k.a. Ronnie Hounds, is in charge of the drums, noise and rhythmic summoning. Bittaker, or Andy Powder, sings, plays guitar and takes care of the feedback and fuzz. “Ryan and I have been playing in bands together since high school,” Bittaker said, “but never in this arrangement.” The singer studied classical g...

Die Antwoord, the South African hip-hop trio, shook up Letterman last night with a bizarre performance of "I Fink U Freeky" from the band's new album "Ten$ion". It's not uncommon for Die Antwoord to be a bit on the weird side, but last night's showing was a real "eye popper". Yo-landi Vi$$er, the group's self declared "singer-rapper-sexpot" appeared with her eyes completely blacked out via custom contact lenses. It was a bold enough move to induce hellish nightmares for everybody who watches. To guarantee your safety, make a copy of this video and force somebody else to watch it. If n...

There’s been rumbling under the feet of Youngstown residents lately, and it has nothing to do with the increased consumption of chili during the winter months. It goes deeper than that — much deeper. It’s hydraulic fracturing, also known as “fracking,” and its offspring, the Class II deep-injection well. Earthquakes aren’t Ohio’s only problem. Before continuing, let's go over what fracking is and what Class II injection wells are. In its simplest terms, fracking is a process that releases natural gas from rocks underground. Wells are drilled vertically, and then horizontally, ...

"A Eulogy for the Damned" is the latest studio album from the U.K stoner metal rockers Orange Goblin. You can listen to the album in its entirety here on AOL music. The album is set for a North American release on Valentine's day. In an early review of the record, Popdose boasts: “…their first record for Candlelight is pretty damn fantastic. Rockin’, riff-tastic and possibly the best record from start to finish that they’ve released yet.” Blistering calls it “…a total pure-bred metal album,” adding that, “there's not a trace of fluff or even a sideways idea to be found, ...

OK Go, masters of the viral music video, released another soon-to-be sensation during Sunday's Superbowl game. In the new music video for "Needing/Getting", the band packs into a highly modified Chevy Sonic to play instruments. The catch however, is the band isn't playing the instruments with their hands, they're letting the car do all the work. The Chevy Sonic is modified with several pneumatic arms that strike various instruments in an instrument obstacle course. During the video the car  plays 288 guitars, 55 pianos and 1,157 homemade instruments ranging from plastic barrels to pot...

We caught up with Dalin Jones, bassist and vocalist of Son Of Neckbeard, Canton, Ohio's own horror rock band. Here's our 10 questions for Son of Neckbeard: Who the hell is Neckbeard? Neckbeard is the being. He is the alpha and omega. He is the creator. He's so much bigger than anyone could ever be. We always pictured him as some type of Viking god, but it takes so many parts to be a god. So we're the Son of Neckbeard. Tell me about what inspires your sound? There's just a really broad spectrum. We're fans of everything from Sleep, FuManchu and all the way back to bands like The Doobie...

Don Cornelius, the silky smooth voiced creator of the hit television show "Soul Train", was found dead in his home yesterday of an apparent suicide. Authorities responded to a shooting at 4am at Cornelius' house on Muholland drive in Los Angeles. When they arrived they found Corenlius dead with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. "Soul Train" was one of the longest syndicated shows in television history. The show aired from 1971 until 2006. It was a major launching point for many RnB, soul and hip hop artists. It's a great loss to the music community. Buzzbin Magazine offers our co...

The Vortex Concert Club & Lounge on Brittain Road in Akron is the areas newest full-service concert venue, but it deserves to be one of the areas premiere concert  destination spots. Owner Andrew Leger, an Iraq War veteran, set out to create a great concert experience for everybody and he's succeeded. His enthusiasm for the project is evident in its execution. As most newly opened concert clubs, the place is absolutely spotless. It doesn't smell of the grime and filth of thousands of dedicated concert goers, yet. The place still has some innocence left. It's refreshing. The Vorte...

Buzzbin is dedicated to keeping our readers intelligent and informed. So when the magazine’s office was recently visited by a rather strange fellow named John Titor, we took notice. John was convinced he was a visitor from the future. We couldn’t find evidence to believe otherwise. According to his garbled bantering, his mission was to inform the masses of future events in hopes of changing the course of history. Here is an outline of Mr. Titor’s predictions... Everybody who’s been to Nelson’s Ledges knows Jones for Revival, the Mahoning Valley’s own groovy, good-vibed jam band. The band prides itself on creating a fun and friendly environment everywhere it performs. Soon, you’ll be able to take more of its funky sound with you. The band is currently working on a second album and things are going to be more jamming than ever. I caught up with Jimmy DeCapua, the band’s lead guitarist, vocalist and founding member. He remembered the early days when he studied jazz guitar and sociology at Kent State University back in 2003, the days before ...

When thinking of an extended metaphor for Red Wanting Blue’s new album “From the Vanishing Point,” many thoughts ran through my head, weddings, dinners with in-laws, first dates, and the “Saw” films and so on. However, I decided to keep it relatively clean with my following breakdown of the Ohio rocker’s 9th album. “From the Vanishing Point” is like soft core porn. The first half tries to add some substance by creating some phony plotline that everybody knows is a ruse to trick unsuspecting channel surfers to keep watching. It’s deceivingly clean, prim and proper, easily d...

Comic book fans rejoiced in September when DC Comics began releasing revamped, re-imagined and rebooted super hero titles, all beginning with issue #1. DC wiped clean the slates of iconic heroes like Batman and Superman and heroines like Wonder Woman, effectively allowing older comic book fans, and new fans alike, to enjoy reading tales of their favorite heroes from the beginning. But don’t expect the same origin stories we’re all familiar with. Character arcs and stories that were built during DC Comics’ 76-year history are moving aside to allow edgier, more modern stories to fill th...

In 1964 at 8 P.M ET, The Beatles played Sullivan. A young Doug Smith watched his parent’s black and white television as John, Paul, George and Ringo made music and television history. At that moment around the world, the performance was inspiring an entire generation to become musicians and rock stars, including Doug. He would grow to be a talented percussionist and eventually owner of The Drum Smith drum shop in Struthers, Ohio. Walk into The Drum Smith and Doug will probably greet you at the door with a handshake, a “How’re ya doing?” and plenty of contagious enthusiasm. It’s ob...

The plot is captivating. Paul Donner, an NYPD detective, has a problem: he’s alive, but he shouldn’t be. He’s a victim of “the shift”, a process that reanimates the DNA of thousands of corpses. Now he is living in the year 2054, 50 years after the murder of him and his wife, and he’s looking for those responsible for killing him in the first place. However, it isn’t the plot of a new Ridley Scott film, nor was it written in New York City or Los Angeles. It’s the premise of Michael Dempsey’s debut novel, “Necropolis”, written right here in Northeast Ohio. Michael Demps...
