Well folks, thankfully we are still alive and drinking. Christmas was wonderful, and New Year's Eve was a blast, but quite frankly this has been the worst apocalypse ever. However, since things did not go the way the Mayan’s planned I can continue to drink good beer. I am starting off 2013 by drowning my sorrows with Founders Breakfast Stout. The first time I tried this beer was on draft at the Auricle in Canton. Also, during my first visit there I was surprised by their craft brew selection on tap. It was a small cup with a hefty price tag, but filled with divine elixir. I suggest drinking ...
Husbands & Wives, a group of four hardworking and talented lads who hail from Canton, finally released their debut album, “Prepare To Meet Thy God,” July 14. But this was no quiet release with the CD silently placed on record store shelves. The group took to The Auricle the same night as the debut for an album release show that gathered a packed venue and a whole slew of impressed listeners. It was amazing to see this band play live and know that they roam the streets of Northeast Ohio as everyday pedestrians like you and me. The group puts on such an incredible show that those butter...

Canal Fulton native DJ Mekadog cites a childhood love of music as the reason for his acquiring a turntable at age 26. An expanded record collection followed, and so did his venture into professional turntabling. Mekadog began to play in heavy-metal bands in Canton. The experience led to the recording of his first concept/scratch album, “Dog vs. Cat,” released by local indie label Intolerance Records. Together with “Dog vs. Cat” collaborator MC Wally, he evolved the recording project into a live hip-hop act with much local success, though this would hardly be the beginning of his care...
“I saw a grown man once riding one of those weird standup scooters down the side of the road — you have to tilt to make it move forward, I think it’s called a Segway or a Douchebag Way — wearing a toga and holding a sign for a pizza sale,” comedian Dan Cummins recounts in one of his standup routines. “My first thought was, ‘Congrats, you’ve hit rock bottom.’ But my second thought was, ‘If you took away just the sign, then that guy would rule.’” Meandering, abstracted and at times, a little bizarre, the comedic stylings of Dan Cummins has made him a huge hit among the 1...

December 29 - Canton - The Auricle Columbus’ Cadaver Dogs are charmers and heartbreakers, not that I know from personal experience. That's just the jazzy line they throw out and back up with their sleazy rock 'n' roll with big time hooks. If you miss the days when rock 'n' roll was about partying and having a good time this is definitely your jam. The band's songs sound like a weekend with one of the Buzzbin writers, with titles like “Voodoo Love Slut” and “Get Some Strange.” Cadaver Dogs are playing The Auricle December 29th with ofHuman, Goodnight Jersey and Marbles for Eyes....

December 2 - Canton - The Auricle Jordan Witzigreuter, a.k.a. The Ready Set, and his backing band are bringing the indie rock to The Auricle on December 2. In October, The Ready Set released "Feel Good Now," and there is a good chance those songs will be on the set list. Also on the bill are The Summer Set, The Downtown Fiction and Plug In Stereo. The Ready Set plays happy, rocky pop that you can bounce up and down to. Listening to "More Than Alive" lifts my mood, in much the way Bruno Mars does. $16 isn't too much for this one. November 19 - Canton - The Auricle Woods is a Knoxville singer/songwriter who spends most of his time on the road. “A lot of my songs are very much based in classic country music, while others are grounded in straightforward, greasy rock n' roll, “ Woods said. In April, Woods released “The Matt Woods Manifesto” and spent the summer touring the country and writing new material. Unfortunately, he missed his gig at Buzzbin's Brewed Roots Festival after brutally breaking his finger (see his facebook page for the video). Sharon Little's Take the Money and Run tour will stop at Most Wanted Fine Arts in Pittsburgh on November 11. The tour is to promoter her new album, "Paper Doll." Paper Doll, the second album by vocalist, songwriter and CBS recording artist Sharon Little, is the artist’s response to a pop culture mindset that seems to require female entertainers to adopt a particular look or behave outrageously in order to gain attention. Blazing her way on an accelerated career path – she went from waiting tables in a Philadelphia coffee shop straight to a debut album and a national tour with Robert Plan...
