There is no doubt the 40s were a great band. However that great band is no longer. People are sad. In fact the entire city of Canton has been going downhill ever since the farewell show last week. Thank goodness we have these fine photos to document the leave which took places at The Auricle in Canton last week. Submitted by James Lightcap. ...
The Matrimonials When this Baltimore band finally hits the right ears, they’re going to be unstoppable. They’ve self-released two fantastic albums of indie rock candy that are both quirky and anthemic — a rare feat these days. Both are on regular rotation in my iPod. Plus, their live show will blow your mind: They played at the Auricle in Canton in June and the beer and rock flowed like a roaring geyser. As noisy and drunken as early Pavement albums but with a poppy heart, I highly recommend these guys. Album to get: “New Jams to Slam in your Jam Box” The Said So Canton's ver...
On August 6, the Auricle is hosting a benefit for Brian Hudson. Hudson was involved in a car accident in June, and he suffered injuries including a severed spine and a broken back. The 27 year old was in the intensive care unit for three weeks before he was able to eat and breathe on his own. He will never walk again, but the money that is made from this show will help with recovery down the road. Mr. Gnome is headlining the benefit along with minimalist folk rocker Jaybird Goody and folkies duo Zen and Jane. The benefit is being put together by friends and family of Hudson. Mr. Gnome s...
Mr. Gnome is headlining this show as part of a benefit concert for the Brian Hudson Trust Fund. The money is being raised to help with some of the costs after his automobile accident in June. So give a little bit, and check out a solid band looking to help out a guy in need. 8/6 Auricle • Canton ...

One year ago almost to the day, the Blue Olive, the Canton jazz club housed in the basement of the Metropolitan Housing Authority on Cleveland Avenue, closed abruptly. The club’s owners had been evicted for non-payment of rent, leaving behind a bleak void in a city that actively celebrates every other form of the arts. Those looking for live music ended up driving to Cleveland or Akron, to venues like Musica or Peabody’s, or searched for open-mic nights at local watering holes. Now, if Nick and Josh Brewer, Curtis Miller and Luke Gaul have their way, downtown Canton will also be on the ...
