Yet another terrific brewery has made its way to the Northeast Ohio shelves. Chicago's Revolution Brewing opened just three short years ago but has been on a steady incline ever since. So sit back, relax and crack open a beer as you learn more about Revolution Brewing. In the summer of 1995, homebrewer Josh Deth landed a job cleaning kegs at the now-defunct Golden Prairie Brewing. As a beginner, Josh dutifully cleaned kegs and scrubbed tanks containing such intriguing beers as Maple Stout, Honey Ginger and Buckwheat Ale. Years later he moved over to the famed Goose Island as a cellarman ...

Dating back to 2009, Brew at the Zoo has become a great way for adults to escape the chaos of their daily lives and enjoy the evening doing something slightly out of the ordinary. “We added this event because we were hearing from our visitors that while most of our events were kid-oriented and fun, they would love some adult events as well,” said David Barnhardt, director of marketing...
Every winter we become inundated with the beers of the cold-weather season: thick porters, spicy holiday ales and novelty beers with flavors ranging from pumpkin to iced gingerbread. Many styles of beer have been delegated to our harvest times due to the availability of their constituent ingredients. One beer, however, has blossomed every spring for thousands of years, harkening back to the very first days of modern brewing. Yes, without the cooler months, the lambic would certainly not exist, and with it would go one of the best beverages ever created for a warm springtime day. Let’s gai...
“Live Coffee — Hot Music — Loud Food”: That’s the slogan proudly emblazoned on the awning outside of Sonnets Espresso Bar and Restaurant in Wadsworth. Add an impressive selection of 75 Ohio-brewed beers to the mix, and according to co-owner Brian Power, you’ve got the formula for this venue’s success. “The gourmet coffee, fresh food, beer and music all overlap,” Power said, “and the result is a great and unique overall experience for everybody.” The live music happens five times a week, and in the middle you’ll find a very popular Wednesday night open-mic. An avid homebrewer, beer aficionado Shane Welch took the inevitable next step in the brew-loving progression: He started his own brewery. Accumulating more than 100 recipes, he housed his ambitious start-up in an 800-square-foot garage in a dilapidated and perilous part of Brooklyn. And thus, in 2004, Sixpoint Brewery was born. “The neighborhood was not in great shape then and has since seen a wonderful renaissance of growth and renewal, which we like to think Sixpoint has played a part in,” said Jerry Welch, Sixpoint’s sales representative for Northeast Ohio. Sixpoint takes their nam...

I have had what are, in my opinion, both good and bad beers. I try to stick to beers I know I like and can be objective about reviewing, but what is the fun in never trying something new? I love trying new beers. Of course, I have gotten excited about a new beer, searched frantically until I found it, and fraught with anticipation I drink to find it is a disappointing experience. Nothing is worse than getting a bad beer. However, in the case of Bad Monkey Chimp Chiller Ale … bad is good! Bad Monkey Beer is an Independent Beer Brewer whose fine tasting beer is brewed and bottled at the Li...
Greg Koch is the face behind quite possibly the most well-known and respected craft beer company in the country, San Diego’s Stone Brewing Co. Over the last 15 years, he has been on a mission to save the world from what he calls the “fizzy yellow nonsense” that has been force-fed to the public for years. Thanks to some brilliant marketing and hop-heavy beers, Stone has created a recipe for success. Koch's first brush with the craft-brew world came in 1987, when he had a swig of the Bay Area's legendary Anchor Steam beer. However, his path to creating his own brewery came nearly a deca...

When Yuengling decided to expand operations into Ohio in October, nobody thought it was a risky move. Ohio is a beer-drinking state and we enjoy good tasting beers. Demand for the breweries wares in the state are so high, rollouts to both Dayton and Cincinnati are being delayed until production can keep up. Still Drinkin’, Still Rockin’ The Unband comes to film Ed. note: This article originally appeared in the first incarnation of Youngstown Pulse sometime between 2003-05. B.J. LISKO Youngstown Pulse Magazine Editor God damnit. I didn’t want to drink tonight. But of course, a night I designate as “recovery,” in a very loose sense, there in the rusty tin box at the end of the driveway is the documentary of The Unband, “We Like To Drink, We Like to Play Rock ‘n’ Roll.” Fuckin’ assholes. Two viewings of this, 12 beers later, and here I am at the computer. I’ve been call...
