The mighty warlords of Crom helm a warship of doom and set forth on a conquest to pillage and devour everything in their path. Instead of riding steeds, these beer-swilling potheads sit atop roaring Kenworth semis and massive combine tractors. They’ve come for your women, your beer and all of your weed. Sound like a bizarre sci-fi epic? It’s not. It’s Canton’s very own soothsayers of doom, Son Of Neckbeard, and let me tell you, if you like your music extremely loud, weird and bowel-loosening heavy, these dudes are for you. They’re releasing their debut album February 3 at The Carriag...

This year, due to noise complaints from non-rocking members of the Louisville community, the Carriage House’s annual metal festival The Carnival of Chaos is scaled back to one day — but great local bands remain on the lineup. Mike Ritchie will be back headlining the concert this year with perennial crowd favorite Candy Coated Jesus, taking his well-earned place on the Carriage House stage. The Carriage House has always been a staple of the Ohio music scene, and Ritchie has always been there, whether it was working at the Carriage House, playing there or owning it (literally). When Ritc...

Ten years ago, if someone was talking about "saw," they were talking about a tool you use to cut wood. Now it's thought of as gory horror films that play on human imperfections and inner turmoil. And what goes better with the site of someone sawing off their own leg? Metal baby! Intense face melting metal...Yeah! Perhaps this is why they included Cleveland-based band VentanA in the soundtrack of "Saw VI." Check out the song is called "Watch Us Burn," which includes lyrics like, "There's never been a better time to die/Waiting to die. We're waiting to burn/We're begging for it," which see...

Dead Zebbra’s new album "Peachy Keen" is a damned cool throwback to the glory days of 1992. With a grungy groove and wreckless style that is part Nirvana and part Green River and Mudhoney, these 3 misanthropes from Springfield Illinois definitely know how to bring the noise. This cd is jam-packed with loud rocking guitars, solid powerful rhythms and screaming yet tuneful throat shredding vocals. Every song is a keeper and there are no throw-aways. I find myself driving my car way too fast to this cd and it definitely makes me want to bang my head like a complete psycho.  Some highlights are...

Jeremy James is a mad scientist. As I listen to him talk about the music he loves and the passion he has for recording bands I can't help but notice a demented twinkle in the corner of his eye. He and and the other three madmen (brothers- Drew and Rob Lippencott and  guitar-shredder Brian Lipinski) that make up the New Philadelphia Ohio based band the Gunt Punchers have been playing in various punk, rock and metal bands together for the past fifteen or so years in one form or another. The Lippencott brothers were part of the iconic New Philly punk band The Indigents, while James and Lipinski...

By Julia Kazar It seems like today most bands feel that if they don’t make it big and become hugely successful they give up on their music all together.  They care more about becoming famous than about enjoying themselves and having fun.  Psychostick isn’t one of these bands.  They are all about having fun, with everything they do. Formed over ten years ago, Psychostick is a hard rock band that has always put having fun first.  They even find a way to laugh at their most embarrassing moments, like tripping on stage and their pants falling down.  If you look up any of their v...

Last month we featured a story about Kid Rock and David Grohl suing Mallon’s Grill and Bar in Canton.  More like ASCAP cashing in on a small fry and using the big dog’s name to get the sympathy vote.  I digress.  Well, the plot thickens.  The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) named Bruce Springsteen the plaintiff in a copyright infringement lawsuit against a New York pub.  ASCAP claims the establishment charged costumers a fee to hear a band that, innocently, performed three Springsteen cover songs. And then The Boss fired back. Springsteen immedi...
