Anheuser-Busch InBev, the corporate owners of Budweiser/Bud Light, Beck's, Stella Artois and a pile of other names, have announced they will be releasing a new beer to their lineup in January - Bud Light Platinum. Bud Light Platinum will fall between Bud and Bud Light when it comes to calories, but will set above both of the others in ABV at six percent. The Boston Globe brings up a good point - "I'm not sure how A-B InBev can call this new beverage a 'light beer' when it has more alcohol than regular Budweiser and only 8 fewer calories." The overwhelming consensus is that InBev is doing...
If you're a craft beer fanatic with a sweet tooth prepare to have both your taste preference pleased at once, as Beercandy combines the two. The company makes caramels and taffy infused with beer as one of the main ingredients. The caramels retail for $7.50 for a four piece two-ounce box and $18.50 for a 12 piece six-ounce box. The caramels come in four craft beer styles/flavors. The lambic caramel uses a berry sour beer to make the candy, which is then coated in dark chocolate and pink candy lines. Lager blends butterscotch, caramel, biscuit and a malts flavors, covered in milk chocolat...
Just when you think Google can’t possibly put its monstrous, technological, futuristic, world-liberating hands in anything else, the company teams up with Dogfish Head Brewing to create “URKontinent,” a beer developed with input from the online community around the world. If you’re not familiar with Dogfish Head, you’re missing out. The excellent Delaware-based craft-beer brewery declares that its purpose is creating “off-centered ales for off-centered people.” The company started as a small brewpub in June 1995, focusing on specialty craft beers, but they’ve since expanded ...
Like my previous One Tanked Trip, this month's visit was to an establishment tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Just south of Youngstown is the city of Boardman. Nearly hidden in a sea of chain restaurants sits Vintage Estates Wine and Beer, a craft beer heaven known as the best kept secret in town. I stumbled across this little gem, earlier this year after Boardman's annual beer festival, The Big Tap In, and have been dying to return ever since. Containing over 900 craft beers and 1000 wines, Vintage Estates is one of those rare stops that bring a smile to the face of both craft ...
The craft-brew boom has been sweeping the nation for a while now, but the practitioners of the movement remain steeped in tradition — sometimes to a fault. So when the Shaun O’Sullivan and Nico Freccia began canning their craft brews, it was met with some initial resistance. The two founders of 21st Amendment Brewery first met in San Francisco in 1995 while attending a summer brewing class at University of California-Davis. Both men had moved to the Bay area from the beer wasteland, or just general wasteland, of Los Angeles. Both were interested in craft beers and sought to further the...

Escondido, CA | October 17 -- Best to disregard this press release. It's unlikely that you possess the sophistication to fathom the overwhelming gravitas of the potation it discusses. Thus, stop reading now. Hit delete and retire outside with your fizzy yellow beer. But if, by some infinitesimally minute chance, you are one of the Worthy craft beer cognoscenti and you've somehow surmised that you're prepared for today's release of Double Bastard Ale, then do proceed. With caution. "This is one lacerative muther of an ale," the braggadocious bottle warns. "It is unequivocally certain that yo...

Over 70 breweries participated in the event with each offering a handful of their best beers. The Brewer's Circle, the special VIP section of the event, offered some rare beers along with some tasty appetizers. Among the standouts in the Brewer's Circle were: Goose Island M...

Walmart made a splash at this year's National Beer Wholesalers Association. The event, held at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, is one of the largest gathering of beer distributors in the country and is attended by most established breweries. Former Walmart CEO Lee Scott, who currently serves on the board of directors, was on-hand to let distributors know that the superchain would be opening its doors for more specialized business. Mr. Scott was quoted as saying that Wal-Mart "built the company on two things: One was price, but the other was assortment, and you can't take an area like beer wher...

Every American that isn’t a complete idiot knows the story of the Mayflower and its historic landing at Plymouth Rock. The pilgrims that stepped onto shore from that fabled voyage are remembered every Thanksgiving in elementary school plays throughout the country. We remember their funny outfits with the shiny buckle on the hat, even though we don’t know what the buckle was actually for. We remember how the pilgrims worked together with Native Americans to feed everyone over the winter, even though the passengers on the Mayflower didn’t actually get off the boat and start settling unt...

This month’s craft-beer review comes from the Goose Island Brewery in Chicago. The brew, Honker’s Ale, is one I’ve unfortunately had trouble finding regularly. This time I lucked out and found a few sixers at a grocery with a good selection of crafts and imports....
