-By Nate Brown Many of the houses are vacant on the street, with windows boarded or nonexistent and gang tags marking the exteriors and laying claim to the half-empty neighborhood. An old school building, long abandoned, sits defiantly in the rough area on the east side of Cleveland, its parking lot full. On a cold, slushy MLK Day evening, what used to be a school gymnasium is lit by holiday lights of green, orange, blue, red and pink. A state-of-the art mixing board adds to the hazy glow illuminating the large, open room. Like a gunpowder haze over a recent battlefield, sweetly acrid smok...

The Recording Academy released the list of nominees for the 2011 Grammy Awards yesterday, with Bruno Mars, Adele, Mumford and Sons, and the Foo Fighters garnering a bunch of nominations. The Black Keys received a nod in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category, but they're in the unfortunate position of competing against a posthumous Amy Winehouse duet recorded with an 85 year old Tony Bennett. Kid Cudi also got a nomination thanks to a collaboration with Kanye West in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category. Chris Brown and Rihanna both got nominated as well. Expect people to talk a...

When people hear the name Kinky Friedman, the image of an outspoken Texas cowboy comes to mind. He re-entered the American consciousness when he ran for governor of Texas in 2006 as an independent. Since then, the ideas and beliefs he’s nurtured and developed since he started making a name for himself with Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys have kept him firmly on the public radar, if not directly in the public eye. Mr. Friedman is best known for his biting, satirical songs that offend nearly everyone in our overly politically correct society. One of his most widely known songs, “They...

Kid Cudi seriously needs to stop doing interviews. His new album just dropped and all anyone is talking about is how he bangs rails to get through interviews or how he called Perez a “fuckhead”. In any event, he’s getting a serious wave of attention as he releases a darker, more off the map piece of work. This particular album has had more than a few re-dos. First it was called “Cudder”, then “Cudder and the Revolution of Evolution, until he settled on 'Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager’. Mr. Rager has been hailed as revelation, a whole new era of Kid Cudi. This albu...

Kid Cudi is possibly Cleveland’s most hard-working, yet often prolific export. He told magazines how he regularly used coke to get him through interviews; he punched a fan in the face during a homecoming concert in Cleveland. He was also thrown off Lady GaGa’s Monster Ball Tour. (Exactly what DO you have to do to offend Lady GaGa?) Yet, Kid Cudi has three albums under his belt as well as an HBO series on his resume. His single “Day n Nite” was an instant success. His 2010 tour is in support of this latest work, Man On The Man II: The Legend of Mr. Rager. Kid Cudi is making his way thro...
