How to describe “Everything is Alive”? Adult alternative and pop come to mind. Influences as diverse as Death Cab for Cutie, Mazzy Star, R.E.M. and the Psychedelic Furs are easy to spot. That said, like pomegranate seeds, this album is more sour than sweet. Joey Cook, sultry and tough at once, reminded me of both the Riot Grrrl and Lilith Fair schools of female rockers.
