Maid Myriad’s love for music has shone through their performances and they’ve been catching people’s attention that way since they hit the scene back in 2007.  Oh, and they may just be my new favorite band. They tend to blanch at the thought of putting themselves into a genre. But when someone’s life is hypothetically in danger, singer Jeffrey Christopher Klemm admitted that he’d call them “alternative indie rock pop goodness with maybe a cherry on top.” Alternative being a new catch all term, they’re kind of the alternative to alternative, or what we coined “ultra-altern...

Looking for something exciting to do during First Friday? Then head on down to the Arts in Stark stage to experience the power of Chris Wintrip's Guitar Academy. The Guitar Academy is a unique opportunity for a group of Chris Wintrip’s students, young and old alike, to get up on stage and perform in a concert setting in front of a live audience. The students jam with some of the areas most seasoned, professional musicians and get the experience of playing on stage with a professional sound system, lights, and special effects. The Guitar Academy began in Chris’ living room when a hand...

The Dead Records are young, intense and seriously rocking. Composed of Aaron Taylor (vocals, guitar), Chad Briner (guitar), Will Magley (bass) and Sean Richardson (drums), Fort Wayne, Ind.-based The Dead Records sound like a cross between The Gaslight Anthem and The Hold Steady. They’ll be playing the Buzzbin First Friday Concert on July 1 with Maid Myriad. We talked to Richardson, who gave us the lowdown on what moves these earnest guys. The Dead Records is an interesting name. What’s the story behind it? The name of the band came from the belief that with the increase in digital te...

Arts for Alzheimer’s Promotes Mythical Show If we told you that a group of trolls would be strolling the streets during Canton’s First Friday events, you’d probably sit us down and ask us to please stop doing so much research on our beer section. But as much as we love our beer section, the trolls are true: The Troll Troupe, a group of auditioned local residents playing the parts of trolls, will be roaming local events as part of a campaign to raise awareness and support for research on Alzheimer’s and dementia. Sponsored by the Arts for Alzheimer’s organization, the Troll T...

The scene looks like something out of a low-budget time-travel movie: Armed with hammers and nails, a swarm of high-school students are laboring away at a huge pyramid, modeled after those in Egypt. Around them, attendees of Canton’s First Friday mill about, equal parts confused and intrigued. The students are using artifacts from the steel and rubber industries — a nice regional touch — to build the hieroglyphic forms that ornament the pyramid. That was on May 6. Now completed, the pyramid is sitting in the lot on the east side of Primo’s Restaurant at the corner of Fourth Street N...

In the spirit of self promotional abuse (Hey, we have to pay the bills, ya know) we are going to heavily suggest you come down to the Buzzbin Magazine Art & Music Shop tonight for First Friday in Canton.  Not because we have the beautiful and talented Ashley Brooke Toussant.  And not because we have loads of new custom designed shirts to sell you.  And definitely not because the bars will be packed and there will be tons of people all over the streets.  No, we just felt like saying “Hey, you know, we really wanted to use this magazine audience to promote ourselves for once”.  We...

The Witch of Hebron & The Windup Girl Hello Buzzbin readers! Before I launch into this review, I wanted to take a second for thanking you for supporting a great magazine like Buzzbin, local retailers like the ones that advertise herein and for coming to events like First Friday in Canton, or Zombie Walk in Massillon.  There is a definite feeling in the air that fun things are happening in NE Ohio, and we are, in fact, not the worst place in the United States to live.  So, thanks! Now, on to the end of the world… Nuclear bombs, genetically modified organisms, global ...
