Swedish indie rockers Peter Bjorn and John have been on the scene for well over a decade, but they broke new ground in 2006 with their hit single “Young Folks,” which seemed to grace nearly every commercial and top-ten list. Consisting of Peter Moren (vocals, guitar, bass), Bjorn Yttling (bass, vocals, keyboard) and John Eriksson (drums, vocals, percussion, guitar), the band draws from ‘60s baroque pop with a fair share of new wave thrown in for good measure. This past March the band released their sixth studio record entitled “Gimme Some.” Buzzbin spoke with Eriksson before the b...
Another interesting show to check out this month is Talk Normal at Pat’s in the Flats. Talk Normal is an experimental duo (often described as no-wave although they dispute that) from NYC consisting of a two women; one on guitar/bass, one on drums and both singing. Both are sound trained sound engineers and create more sound than you would expect. ...
After a near fatal accident in January 2011, Akron’s The Taxidermy Special is on its way to being alive and well as a band. The hospitalization of drummer Joe McGee motivated the other members to remain active as a group and bring people together. Both Benjamin Patrick and Will Cardina alternate between guitar, bass and vocals, as Ben’s brother, Logan, acts as a temporary fill-in on drums. “In a way, we cheated death,” Ben said. “The experience brought us closer as a band.” McGee and Cardina have played together since early high school—McGee being the only drummer Cardina...
Dan Miraldi, the NE Ohio-based musician whose candy-sweet pop songs are underpinned with decades of American rock history, recently released Tease, a new three-song solo EP. Miraldi, who also plays keyboard with the Washington, DC-area band The Silver Liners, produced Tease with Kyle Downes. Jay Nemeyer provided some guitar, bass and drums. It’s easy to think of Tease as a kind of appetizer for Miraldi’s future releases: The three songs- “Lucinda”, “The Holy Roller Stone Revival” and the title track- demonstrate a broad range of musical talents and lyrical subjects, an...
By Bri Arnwine Lynn Dials had a vision for rock music and it didn’t just end in his mind. When he decided to pursue life as a rocker he formed his very own band, The Splits, and soon began working on writing music for the group. While sexy bassist/vocalist Nikki Cave has been with The Splints from the beginning, the group has had more drummers than groupies, with more than 13 skin beaters used and abused. Originally from the Washington, DC area, Lynn and Nikki (along with their drummer du jour) relocated for a short while in 2005 to Memphis where they eventually signed to Lightening Ro...
