Let’s be frank: tattoos are just another form of art. Massillon’s Art Bomb Tattoos once again is reminding everyone of that by hosting the Classy and Sassy show, featuring work by artist Whitney Garey. Art Bomb has been tattooing and piercing since 2003, having moved to Massillon in 2008. For the past four years, they have featured local artists on their walls and regularly host shows for local work. If the name Whitney Garey sounds familiar, you’ve probably seen her pieces at Thirteenth Floor last summer — where Art Bomb first came across her. Garey’s art will be gracing the...

Massillon’s most creepily cool art gallery will be moving to a new location soon. On Saturday, April 28, you can check out Thirteenth Floor’s new digs on Erie Street at the grand reopening soiree. This week, fans of the gallery’s macabre style and locally mined selections will be stopping by the old storefront (located at 28 Charles Street) for a moving sale, scheduled to run March 28 through 30. Original artwork and prints, posters, shirts, sculptures, masks — even more utilitarian items like store fixtures and tables will be up for grabs. Following the sale, the gallery, run by...

Timothy Callaghan, represented by the William Busta Gallery, is an artist who lives and works in Cleveland. Educated at the Cleveland Institute of Art (BFA) and Kent State University (MFA), Timothy is known for his landscapes. His new work, which will be on display at the Arts Collinwood Gallery, is a collection of portraits of perso...

More than 200 people attended the opening of local art student Tommy Horning, Jr.’s first solo show on April 15. The exhibition is now on display at Studio 2091 in Cuyahoga Falls, curated by owner Amy Mothersbaugh Roos. In line with other unconventional shows at Studio 2091, Horning’s six sculptures are arranged in an imaginative setup. Several pieces are suspended from the ceiling; cotton clouds give the space a dream-like feeling. Painted on the walls are replicas of Horning’s original sketches and notes, narrating the creative process behind the pieces on display. Horning, an un...

Downtown Canton, has for the last few years been undergoing a revitalization effort centered around the arts.  It began with the designation of an arts district within a section of downtown.  During the last few years, public art and artists studios and galleries have been popping up all over the downtown area.  As we watch progress march forward,  some questions arise.  How can artist’s individual or collective efforts continue to make a difference in the growth Canton’s local art scene?  (Or Stark County for that matter?)  Which is more important for a community wide transform...
