November 29 - Cleveland - Peabody's This pop rock act diverges itself from bands of a similar ilk with a harder sound, though they still maintain glimmering guitars and electro breakdowns fans of the genre have come to expect. First formed in 2006, the band has garnered a lot of attention with a number of featured performance on the Warped Tour, SXSW and CMJ Music Conference. Perhaps their crowning achievement is the band's 2009 MTV Video Music Award for Break Out Band In NYC, which as one could imagine would be a pretty stiff competition. The band is still touring off the strength of thei...

30 years ago MTV dominated and shaped pop culture by flooding our homes with music videos, catapulting musicians into mega stardom. In the 90's, MTV embraced generation X with relatable people on The Real World. Daria introduced us to emo-intelligent-apathy, and Kurt Loader taught us to appreciate the news. Today, MTV hosts shows about underage women with babies and fist pumping how to videos. Which reminds me, Jersey Shore season 4 premieres Thursday. Please, hold my calls. There was a time and place when straight men wore makeup. That time was the mid to late ‘80s and that place was on MTV. Both Poison and Warrant were omnipresent throughout this era and they just...can’t...stop. Poison’s touring schedule picked up steam after lead singer Bret Michaels’s stints on his own reality series and Warrant’s back after their singer (and Akron native) Jani Lane appeared on another reality series, “Celebrity Fit Club,” in 2005. ...
Before The White Stripes try to claim fame to the two-man rock group, the fellas of Local H have got them beat. The band, originated by Scott Lucas on vocals and guitar and Joe Daniels (who was later replaced by Triplefastaction’s Brian St. Clair) on drums, has made a career out of mixing indie rock with the classic sounds of yesteryear. Through often-humorous lyrical stylings and rock and roll power chords, Local H has created a sound that has lasted for nearly two decades. Songwriter Scott Lucas took time from the band’s busy touring schedule to answer a few questions about the band and ...
In 2004, Dayton’s Hawthorne Heights released “Ohio is for Lovers”, a single on their The Silence is Black and White album that simultaneously rocketed them to serious MTV and radio airplay and cast the band as one of the standouts of emo rock in the midst of its first popular wave. Just like the genre itself, Hawthorne Heights’s music tends to be divisive, a love-’em-or-hate-’em kind of sound and image. The lyrics of “Ohio” fit the swoop-banged safety-pinned emo stereotype to a painfully exact degree: “And I can't make it on my own/ Because my heart is in Ohio...
OK Go is not one to give into traditions. The four-piece band, which has been together now for 12 years, is a big ball of originality with no map of directions to guide them. At first mention, the band may not be recognizable- that is until someone discusses one of their viral sensations, which seem to make waves across You Tube every few months. These choreographed master works of musical zaniness often contain one or more of the following: dancing, dancing and more dancing. The band’s “Here We Go Again” video, which feature the most amazing dance routine to ever include treadm...
Kim Nekroman is part evil genius, part European badass and completely twisted. His psychobilly band, Nekromantix, is Frankenstein’s monster on steroids. And the band is back on the road this summer so get ready to experience some good ole horror punk action. Nekroman formed the band in 1989 in Denmark after leaving the Danish army. With his trusty standup bass, a drummer and a guitarist, the band performed its first gig at a huge music festival in Germany after only 6 months of rehearsal. The band rocked but something was missing. It wasn’t until Nekroman viewed the band o...
By D. Beall TWIT CULTURE: JOBLESS CONAN O’BRIEN CREATES CELEBRITY OUT OF THIN AIR The news in early March confirmed to an already annoyed populace that the favor of the Fame Gods is indeed arbitrary. Conan “King Midas” O’Brien reached down from his astral throne and began to “follow” someone on social media website Twitter, prompting national newspapers and TV news shows to go gaga over his new Twitter pal. “I've decided to follow someone at random. She likes peanut butter and gummy dinosaurs. Sarah Killen, your life is about to change.” Conan tweeted. ...
