This alternative quartet out of Wisconsin is named after the street of their practice space back home. Windsor Drive’s music leaves listeners mystified as the band channels the sounds of U2 and Ben Folds into one great group. ...
The lead singer of this pop-punk band has the pretty-boy looks to get away with his mildly bad-boy lyrics. Take the hit “Boys You Do (Get Back at You),” for example — the song is an angst-filled little ditty about an ex-girlfriend who’s talking shit again, so he’s going sleep with all her friends. Plus, they have a girl drummer. That’s hip, right? ...

He’s not just a guy with a guitar; he’s like a one-man-band. Kristoffer plays different parts of the harmony on his several guitars and then uses looping to create a full-band sound. And he does it all live. ...

The Akron deathcore band Ichabod Crane is releasing their second album, “Brimstone”, on April 23 at the Musica in Akron. Brimstone still follows the “Grunt, scream, growl, guitar breakdown, repeat” structure that most deathcore bands follow these days. The difference between them and other deathcore bands is that they actually put some rhythm and complexity into their drumming and guitarwork. Instead of simply being the vocal gap, the breakdowns are enjoyable and they blend well with the song. They also throw in a wicked guitar solo in most of their songs, which is actually pretty r...

This alt-rocker used to be in Sixpence None the Richer before marrying up, moving to Germany and starting a family. This led to stripping the band down to an acoustic guitar and she’s not looked back. Make it to this show for a healthy dose of poppy Americana akin to Emmylou Harris or Shawn Colvin. ...
Esben and the Witch Although just a few years old, this English band has put a lot of miles on the old tour bus. They were signed last year by Matador Records and joined the ranks with heavy weights like Sonic Youth, Interpol and Belle & Sebastian. Impressive. Their sound is experimental and gothic. Intrigued? ...
Folk-rockers head to the historic part of downtown Akron this evening!...
On Wednesday night Miniature Tigers, a four piece band hailing from Phoenix, hit the stage at Musica for a mellow show. The band took the stage just past ten o’clock after three opening bands got the crowd rocking. By the time Miniature Tigers began their set, there had already been almost three hours of great music before them. Even though Miniature Tigers aren’t from the area, they still made a real effort to relate to their crowd, talking about LeBron James and other issues that relate specifically to Akron area residents. It makes a big difference when a band tries to relate w...
3v0cGueuq8o By Julia Kazar ‘Loud,’ ‘crazy’ and ‘amazing’ are just three of the words that can best describe an August Burns Red show, and they definitely apply to their show on Wednesday night when they played at Musica. Also on the bill that night were a few other metal bands; My Children My Bride, Ichabod Crane and The Approach and the Execution. All of whom put on incredible shows as well. By the time August Burns Red was ready to take the stage the crowd was already pumped up and excited for the show, even though Musica was packed full of people and because of the...

By Julia Kazzar Let’s face it, the jokes about Wang Chung-ing have been done to death ever since the song “Everybody Have Fun Tonight” first came out back in 1986, everyone from Frasier Crane on Cheers to the Gilmore Girls have made some reference to it. Whether you know what it is or not you will have one more chance to do it when Wang Chung comes to Musica on Wednesday. The band is touring this summer in support of their latest album, Abducted by the 80’s. The album consists of eight songs, mostly new songs, with the obvious exception of a new version of the bands biggest hit “...
