There is no denying that there has been a wave of '90s nostalgia in the music world lately, and some of the most beloved bands from 20 years ago are reuniting and releasing music to cash in on the craze. But some bands from the decade have been consistently going strong and evolving without slipping into obscurity. One such band is The Offspring, those punk-drenched dudes from California with huge hits like “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)” and “Come Out And Play,” among many others. The band is not only celebrating the 20th anniversary of its second album, “Ignition,” this year, but...

After the sorry disappointment that was Tenacious D's movie "The Pick of Destiny", it looks like D fans are getting a bone--or maybe two. Jack Black and Kyle Gass just released a music video titled "To be the Best." The video is whetting their fan's appetites ahead of the band's May 15th release of a new album, "The Rize of the Fenix." The video features the rise, fall and rebirth of the band in a kind of tabloid show format. Also appearing are a slew of celebrities. This summer Tenacious D is hitting the road. They recently announced a 16-date U.S. tour to promote the new album. ...

Northside Bar and Grille is located in one of the more economically and culturally resurgent corners of downtown Akron, next to what might be the city’s most iconic culinary institution, Luigi’s, and the best possible example that the once burned-out Rubber City is trending upward, the rock star-owned vegan restaurant Vegiterranean. Before vegan restaurants and multimillion-dollar condos, the Northside district was a couple of family businesses, a metal catfish statue and the vague suspicion that your car was going to get broken into. But people came. They didn’t have a choice, really...

Though he captured a few hearts with his band The District after two albums (along with endless nationwide tours), Ron Pope engineered a solo career after an extended hiatus of the band. Within a year, he gained a loyal following, made countless singles and received several offers from major record labels, eventually landing at Universal Republic. Now free from his contractual agreements, Pope steps out with “Whatever It Takes,” released last month courtesy of his own label, Hard Six Records. Tracks such as “If You Were A Stone” and “Our Song” seem primed for local Top 20 radio ...

The Akron deathcore band Ichabod Crane is releasing their second album, “Brimstone”, on April 23 at the Musica in Akron. Brimstone still follows the “Grunt, scream, growl, guitar breakdown, repeat” structure that most deathcore bands follow these days. The difference between them and other deathcore bands is that they actually put some rhythm and complexity into their drumming and guitarwork. Instead of simply being the vocal gap, the breakdowns are enjoyable and they blend well with the song. They also throw in a wicked guitar solo in most of their songs, which is actually pretty r...
