October 26 - Akron - Annabell's "Austin's Most Dangerous Band" Kicks Off U.S. Tour EAGLE CLAW is an explosive, unbridled force. Possessing an uncanny songwriting sense, fearless innovation, unparalleled technical ability and a bottomless pool of raw talent and creativity, the Austin-based "InstruMETAL" quartet is inarguably one of the "Live Music Capital of the World"'s most exciting new bands. EAGLE CLAW will take its formidable live show to stages in Dallas, Chicago, NYC, Atlanta and more as part of a two week headlining tour that will run through November 3 in Shrev...

Bane has seen it all in the hardcore music scene since forming in 1995, some good and some bad. The band's singer Aaron Bedard has noticed the cycles that the music goes through and attributes it to the fan base's changing tastes. “Kids grown up and move on,” Bedard said. “New bands come and young kids get hyped on them, someone starts putting on shows in their town and it creates a snowball effect.” Conversely he said that things also die down and shows get smaller in cities that once had big scenes. Even for Bedard, the future of hardcore music is uncertain. The waning and w...

At first glance, the background story of two-piece psychedelic/garage rockers The Modulated Tones might look pretty familiar. Two social misfits bond together on a shared love for similar sounds in a town with a growing thirst for new music and art. It’s under such situations many of the greats have spawned from. And it’s exactly the reason New Castle, Pa., guitarist/vocalist Kevin Braun and drummer Gina Kantner are such a promising endeavor even despite the release of a full length recorded effort. Others are also seeing the chemistry. The group has been able to land high-profil...

Upon first impression the Bonnaroo complex looks like a giant carnival surrounded by a hippie-shanty commune.  After spending nearly a week there it becomes clear that is exactly what it is.  A giant four-day gypsy party attended by 100,000 people, a heavy majority of which are getting completely out of their minds on whatever kicks they're into.  All of it scored by  plethora of amazing bands that would satiate any musical pallet. The music being the main purpose for the festival it is no surprise that the line up was intense.  The big surprise is the variety that is booked.  Lorett...

It's a weekend of salty beats, thundering bass and new inventive music at Camp Bisco 2010, a three-day festival put on by Philadelphia jamtronic pioneers, The Disco Biscuits, near Mariaville, New York. Capitalizing on the explosion of experimental rock-infused electronica that's been evolving while redefining the festival scene over the past decade, Camp Bisco celebrates the fusion of hip hop, house trance, reggae and rock.  It's also a chance for fans to experience new bands, new faces and new sounds in an ever-growing genre of live music. The Disco Biscuits first put the festival toge...

It's a night of hard-rock and metal, fresh new bands and a convergence of talent. Annabell's is packed with Akron music fans getting their first glimpses of two brand new amalgamations of the Akron music scene: Duunes and Octiger, with the increasingly popular Megachurch sandwiched between them. Duunes are up first, priming the crowd with ear-splitting distortions before diving into their brand of aggressive rock. The riffs go from funky to metal, and their range keeps it interesting. The Duunes are made up of ex-members of Sofa King Killers, Six-Parts Seven, Hell's Information and Beas...

By Odessa Jackson In an era of watered down rock and roll, Simeon Soul Charger manages to stand out as a truly great rock band. With touches of metal and Pink Floyd, Simeon Soul Charger’s album, All Rather Dead, makes up in quality what it lacks in length. The album begins with various experimental sounds, “Infiglia Raukus”, that leads into a series of hard rock/ blues inspired pieces and end with the titular song, an acoustic guitar driven piece that reminds the listener of the heartbreaking songs of Johnny Cash. At no point does the band make a move that would lose the listeners...

The year was 1978 and the Akron music scene was as burnt out as an old set of Goodyear radials.  The sound of the time was album-oriented rock (AOR).  Guitars were being dropped and Akron had few venues for new bands, let alone have a want for a new sound.  Or so we thought.  Downtown Akron was, at best, a place where the in-crowd dare not tread once the sun went down.  It was dire, desolate and in bad shape. Then, like a punk phoenix rising out of the ashes of this deteriorated, once booming industrial Midwest tire town, it came.  The band that would breathe a raw, punk breath, y...
