Kellogg plays folk with a heavy traditional country tinge. His deep baritone and finger style sound like it emanates from the front porch of a farmhouse — which makes sense, because he lives on a farm in Ohio’s Amish country. Looking like a fire-and-brimstone preacher with a twinkle of mischief in his eyes, it’s hard to take his salt-of-the-earth tunes as anything but genuine. ...

Hailing from Dover, Ohio, State Bird plays some pretty raucous rock ‘n’ roll, though they didn’t start out that way. Those familiar with the band’s earlier efforts might remember them having a more indie-pop sound. Well apparently the boys in the band got into booze, pot and late ’90s post-punk between releases and produced a gem of a stonerish rock record. While it has long been said you can’t judge a book, or in this case a record, by its cover, State Bird’s “Healing the Pain” cover is representative of the sound on the album inside the sleeve: Two sweaty girls in party ...

December 2 - Canton - The Auricle Jordan Witzigreuter, a.k.a. The Ready Set, and his backing band are bringing the indie rock to The Auricle on December 2. In October, The Ready Set released "Feel Good Now," and there is a good chance those songs will be on the set list. Also on the bill are The Summer Set, The Downtown Fiction and Plug In Stereo. The Ready Set plays happy, rocky pop that you can bounce up and down to. Listening to "More Than Alive" lifts my mood, in much the way Bruno Mars does. $16 isn't too much for this one.
